How this list was compiled: Written from Louisiana Revised Statutes Title 32 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic Regulation) as published by the Louisiana State Legislature at https://legis.la.gov/Legis/Laws_Toc.aspx?folder=75&level=Parent, checked 2026-09-18. Each question names its section and links to it. Louisiana law bases the real knowledge test solely on the driver's manual and puts at least two items on the economic effects of littering on it (R.S. 32:408). How it works

This is an unofficial chauffeur license practice test, and neither state has reviewed it. Michigan points applicants to its brochure TS-025, and Louisiana law bases its test solely on the state driver's manual. These 69 Michigan and 70 Louisiana questions were written from the statutes instead, so they do not cover everything in either booklet.

Who needs a chauffeur license

Michigan calls you a chauffeur if you are employed mainly to drive a vehicle rated 10,000 pounds or more, drive a bus or school bus, or operate as a motor carrier (MCL 257.6). Louisiana's statute names its Class D the Chauffeur's License, so a chauffeur's license practice test for Louisiana is a Class D test. It covers vehicles used in commerce rated 10,001 pounds to under 26,001, plus any vehicle carrying passengers for hire or a fee (R.S. 32:408).

What the real knowledge tests look like

Michigan gives a 15-question knowledge exam on a computer at a Secretary of State office, in English, Spanish or Arabic, and publishes no pass mark or time limit. Louisiana's test has at least 32 items, at least two of them on littering's economic effects, and takes 80 percent to pass, or 26 right of 32 (R.S. 32:408). On All topics, Exam mode, under the question, draws 15 questions for either state with no pass line. Louisiana users should aim for 80 percent.

  • Start with Railroad crossings in the Start from menu. Louisiana law puts at least two crossing questions on every Class D test.
  • Michigan waives the exam if you hold a valid CDL or commercial learner permit, or a Michigan chauffeur's license that lapsed within the past four years.
  • The result lists each topic and every miss. Misses wait under Missed. Clear my progress, under More options, erases what this browser kept.

Questions and answers

Does this cover the whole real test?

No. Michigan tells applicants to prepare with brochure TS-025, and Louisiana publishes its driver's manual as the Class D & E Driver's Guide. This bank was written from the statutes. Michigan's brochure covers where to set out warning devices, and Louisiana's test carries littering questions. Neither is here. Read your state's booklet.

How much does a chauffeur license cost?

Michigan's Secretary of State lists $35 for a standard chauffeur's license and $50 for an enhanced one. Louisiana's statute sets the Class D fee at $42.75 for six years, or $54 for New Orleans residents (R.S. 32:412). Both checked September 18, 2026.

Do Michigan taxi or ride-share drivers need a chauffeur license?

No. Michigan's definition of a chauffeur leaves out transportation network company, limousine and taxicab drivers (MCL 257.6). Louisiana's statute has a similar exception: taxi cab drivers need only meet the Class E requirements (R.S. 32:408).
