How this list was compiled: Examinations: the testing page of the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology (http://www.lsbc.louisiana.gov/testing.aspx, read 2026-10-16; the https address does not answer) lists three for estheticians: an Esthetician National Exam, for which it posts a bulletin of the NIC National Esthetics Theory Examination; an Esthetician State Exam, for which it links its book of cosmetology laws and rules; and an Esthetician Practical Examination. Facts: the Louisiana Cosmetology Act, R.S. 37:561 to 37:607, section by section on the Louisiana State Legislature's site (https://legis.la.gov/Legis/Law.aspx?d=94321), and Louisiana Administrative Code Title 46, Part XXXI, Cosmetologists, in the compilation dated December 2023 on the Office of the State Register's page (https://www.doa.la.gov/doa/osr/louisiana-administrative-code/). Each question names its section and links to the document it is in. Read 2026-10-16. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the public texts named. Nothing comes from a real examination, the sample questions of a bulletin, a practice product, a textbook or a prep course.

How it works

Louisiana examines estheticians on its own law, and this unofficial Louisiana esthetician practice test covers it: the Cosmetology Act and the Board's rules. It is not affiliated with the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology, the NIC or any testing service.

What the 45 questions cover

Sixteen are on the definition of esthetics, the Board's list of esthetic services and the prohibited services of LAC 46:XXXI.717. Eight are on sanitation and the equipment an esthetics salon must have, 8 on the certificate and examinations, and 13 on salons, managers, permits and discipline. The same book's general sanitation rule (LAC 46:XXXI.701) is asked on the Louisiana cosmetology law test here.

What is left to the national exam

Skin histology, disorders, chemistry, facial procedures and massage belong to the NIC theory examination and are not asked, because no Louisiana text states them. The Washington esthetician test on this site follows that outline.

  • Every esthetics service stops at the epidermis: nothing may affect the dermis (LAC 46:XXXI.711).
  • Lasers, micro-blading and body art are outside every license and permit the Board issues (LAC 46:XXXI.717).
  • Esthetician examinations are conducted at least four times per calendar year (R.S. 37:586).

Questions and answers

Is this a Louisiana esthetician state board practice test?

It practices one of the Board's three examinations: the Esthetician State Exam, which its testing page links to the book of cosmetology laws and rules. The national theory examination and the practical examination are not covered.

Where is a Louisiana esthetician written exam study guide?

For the State Exam, the Board's own book of laws and rules: the Louisiana Cosmetology Act and LAC Title 46, Part XXXI. For the national theory examination, the testing page posts the NIC candidate bulletin with its content outline.

How many questions are on the Louisiana esthetician state exam?

The Board prints no question count, time limit or pass mark for the State Exam, so this page gives none. The NIC bulletin it posts gives the national theory examination 110 items, 100 of them scored, in 90 minutes.

How many hours is esthetician school in Louisiana?

At least 750 hours of instruction (LAC 46:XXXI.303). An applicant must be at least sixteen with training equal to the tenth grade (R.S. 37:582), and tests after a clearance from the school and from the Board.

Are these the real Louisiana esthetician exam questions?

No, and they could not be: R.S. 37:586 keeps the Board's examinations and results confidential. Each question was written for this site from the Act on the Legislature's site and the rules on the State Register's page.
