What the Texas written exam asks

The Esthetician License Examination bulletin dated January 1, 2026 (opened October 16, 2026) lists five topics: facial treatments 28 percent, infection control 25, licensing and regulation 20, skin care 16, hair removal 11. This bank holds 23, 21, 16, 13 and 9 questions on them.

Texas rules behind the answers

Chapter 83 of Title 16 sets a facial bed disinfected after each client, no re-dipped applicators and tweezers sterilized or sanitized before each hair removal service. Machine theory and massage movements are left out: no public text states them.

  • Gloves must be worn during any type of extraction (16 TAC 83.104).
  • Wax may not be reused under any circumstances, and no applicator may be left standing in it (16 TAC 83.105).
  • A product or procedure that contacts or penetrates the dermis is prohibited (16 TAC 83.112).

Questions and answers

Eighty-two: 75 scored and 7 non-scored. The bulletin allows 105 minutes for the scored questions and 10 more for the others, and passing takes 70 percent correct.

No. The practical is a separate examination on a mannequin, taken once the written one is passed. The bulletin gives it 1 hour and 41 minutes and a passing score of 70 percent.

How many hours is esthetician school in Texas?

The department's esthetician license page asks for a 750-hour esthetician course at a barbering or cosmetology school licensed in Texas, and 16 TAC 83.200 asks that an applicant be at least 17.
