How this list was compiled: Own questions, written from Title 63 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 (chapters 1, 3, 5 and 7). The state's own free code sits on a viewer that could not be opened by this site's tools, so statute text was read on 2026-10-04 in a public copy: Release 78 of the Official Code of Mississippi Annotated, dated 2020-07-08, posted by Public.Resource.Org on the Internet Archive (file: https://archive.org/serve/gov.ms.code.ann.2018/release78.2020.07.08/gov.ms.code.title.63.html; collection page: https://archive.org/details/gov.ms.code.ann.2018), and most section links open that 2020 copy. On 2026-10-04 every cited section was looked up in the Mississippi Legislature's bill status index of code sections, sessions 2020 to 2026, https://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/. Sections with an approved bill since the copy are cited as amended and were read in the bill as sent to the Governor: 2020 S.B. 2660 (63-5-49), 2021 S.B. 2598 (63-1-21, 63-1-33, 63-1-47), 2022 S.B. 2519 (63-7-47), 2023 H.B. 1003 (63-1-5, 63-1-203, 63-3-619, 63-5-53), 2023 S.B. 2548 (63-5-19) and 2025 H.B. 150 (63-5-27). The Driver Service Bureau's page on the Class D license, https://www.driverservicebureau.dps.ms.gov/Drivers/ClassR, read 2026-10-04, says applicants must pass a Class D knowledge exam and that Class D regulations and sample questions are in the driver's license manual. Nothing here was taken from that manual, so this bank does not cover everything in it: safe driving methods, road signs and the manual's own sample questions are not here. The page gives no question count and no pass mark. Licence: Own work. Statutes and acts of the State of Mississippi are cited as the source of each fact and are not copied as questions.

How it works

This Mississippi Class D license practice test is unofficial. The state sends applicants to its driver's license manual; these 84 questions come from Title 63 of the Mississippi Code instead and do not cover everything in that manual.

Who needs a Class D license

Class D takes the place of the regular Class R license for driving a single vehicle rated under 26,001 pounds as a common carrier, taxicab, passenger coach, dray, contract carrier or private commercial carrier (Miss. Code 63-1-5). Driving those vehicles for private purposes needs no Class D.

What the Class D knowledge exam is

The Driver Service Bureau says applicants must pass a Class D knowledge (written) exam, and its page gives no question count or pass mark. State law asks only for at least ten questions on safe operation (63-1-33). Exam mode, under the question, draws 20 with no pass line. That length is this site's own choice.

  • A vehicle carrying passengers for hire stops between 15 and 50 feet from the nearest rail at a railroad grade crossing (63-3-1011).
  • One single axle may carry 20,000 pounds and a tandem axle 34,000, before the tolerance in Section 63-5-33 (63-5-27).
  • Most section links open a 2020 public copy of Title 63. A section changed since then links to the act that amended it.

Questions and answers

Does this cover the whole Mississippi Class D exam?

No. The Driver Service Bureau says Class D regulations and sample questions are in its driver's license manual. Nothing here was taken from that manual, so safe driving methods and road signs are missing. Each question cites a section of Title 63. Read the manual.

How many questions are on the MS Class D test?

The Driver Service Bureau's Class D page gives no count and no pass mark. Mississippi Code 63-1-33 asks only for a test of at least ten questions on the safe operation of a motor vehicle. The 20 questions in Exam mode are this site's choice.

Do I need a Class D license to drive a pickup truck for work?

No. Section 63-1-5 says no pickup truck driver needs a Class D or commercial license whatever the truck is used for, except as the commercial driver's license law requires. The bureau's example is hazardous materials in an amount that needs a placard.

Does a Mississippi Class D license need a medical card?

The Driver Service Bureau says Class D does not require a Medical Card or a Passenger (P) endorsement. A vehicle designed to transport 16 or more passengers, counting the driver, is a commercial motor vehicle under Section 63-1-203 and falls outside Class D.
