How it works

Mississippi gives a learner's permit from age 15 after a written exam taken in person. This unofficial Mississippi permit practice test asks 139 questions from Title 63 of the state code. Each names its section; 48 more cover road signs.

Permit at 15, license at 16

A permit holder drives with a licensed driver of 21 or older in the next seat, and the permit lasts two years (63-1-21). A 16-year-old needs a year with it and no moving violation before the license (63-1-9). Applicants of 17 or older sit the same knowledge exam, so this doubles as a Mississippi driver's license practice test.

A Mississippi permit test study guide, by the code

Section 63-1-33 asks for road signs, required signals and school bus safety. No length is confirmed here, so Exam mode asks this site's 25 and shows a score with no pass or fail.

  • Stop at least 10 feet from a school bus that is loading or unloading children (63-3-615).
  • A license holder under 18 drives unsupervised until 10:00 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (63-1-21).
  • Leave at least 3 feet when passing a bicyclist, which is allowed in a no-passing zone when safe (63-3-1309).

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the permit test in MS?

The Driver Service Bureau's permit page prints no number and no pass mark. State law sets only a floor: section 63-1-33 calls for at least ten questions, plus road signs and required signals.

Can you take the permit test online in Mississippi?

No. The Driver Service Bureau says all knowledge exams must be taken in person, with no cell phones, ear buds or smart watches in the testing area.

Is this a Mississippi DMV practice test from the state?

No. The Driver Service Bureau of the Department of Public Safety gives the real exam, and this private site has never seen its questions. Every question here was written from Title 63 of the state code.

Is there a Mississippi drivers license test questions and answers PDF?

Not on this page, and no real exam questions are here. The Driver Service Bureau offers its driver's license manual as a free download. Each practice question shows its keyed choice and code section after you answer.

How old do you have to be to get a permit in Mississippi?

Fifteen, under Miss. Code 63-1-9, with proof of school enrollment. The Driver Service Bureau says applicants of 17 or older may get the learner's permit and the driver's license on the same day.
