How it works

What the Mississippi law questions cover
Six groups: producer licensing and continuing education, life insurance law, replacement, annuities and viatical settlements, accident and health provisions, unfair practices and penalties, and the guaranty association. Chapter 7 of Title 83 sets no grace period or incontestability clause for life policies, so the life group asks what it does set: the free look, minors, interest on proceeds and accelerated benefits.
Where the Mississippi law was read
Sections amended since 2020 were read in the act itself on the Legislature's site: prelicensing and continuing education, the examination, the accident and sickness policy provisions and the guaranty association. The rest were read in a public copy of the code dated July 8, 2020, each checked against the Legislature's bill index. Regulations were read on the Department's site.
- Notice of claim on an accident and sickness policy is due within 30 days of the loss (83-9-5).
- A clean claim is paid within 25 days when sent electronically and within 35 days on paper (83-9-5).
- A minor aged 15 or older may contract for life, health and accident insurance on his or her own life (83-7-19).
Questions and answers
Is there a PDF of Mississippi life insurance exam questions and answers?
Yes, of this site's practice questions. After a round, press Print, tick With answer key, then Print the question sheet and save it as a PDF from the print window. None of it is the state exam's questions or answer key.
How many questions are on the Mississippi life insurance exam?
Title 83 does not say, and this page gives no length, clock or pass mark. Section 83-17-59 leaves the exam to the Commissioner; since 2026 a testing service must follow the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' standards. Exam mode's 25 questions are a set size.
How many hours of prelicensing education does Mississippi require?
Twenty hours of approved courses for each line of authority (83-17-251). Since a 2024 act, an applicant for the life line only is exempt, as is one with a bachelor's degree with major coursework in insurance.
How many continuing education hours does a Mississippi producer need?
Twenty-four hours, three of them in ethics, when the license has been in effect more than 18 months; twelve hours when it has been in effect 18 months or less (83-17-251).
