What the Mississippi grade 4 math test covers
Fourth grade points sit mostly in two categories of the MAAP blueprint. Base Ten and Fractions get 21 to 29 percent each: place value to 1,000,000, rounding, multiplying by one digit, dividing with remainders, equivalent fractions, mixed numbers and decimals to hundredths. Operations and Algebraic Thinking covers "times as many" comparisons, multistep problems, factors and primes. Measurement and Data covers unit conversion, time, money, area, perimeter and angles. Geometry, the smallest, covers lines, triangles and symmetry.
Where each answer can be checked
Under every answer are the steps and its standard, such as 4.NF.3, from the 2025 Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics. Fractions keep to the denominators those standards allow in grade 4: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 100.
- Grade 4 is the first MAAP math test where a protractor is a required tool, so practice reading angles in degrees.
Questions and answers
How many questions does the MAAP math test have in 4th grade?
Fifty-eight in a single session, the grade 4 blueprint says: 49 operational items worth 52 points, and 9 field test items.
How long is the Mississippi 4th grade math test?
Three hours. The blueprint gives the single session 180 minutes, with timing accommodations for a student who has a documented need.

Does the Mississippi Department of Education have a 4th grade math practice test?
Yes. The department's ELA and Math Resources page posts a Grade 4 Math Practice test and a Grade 4 Math Sampler, both with answer keys. This page uses none of their items.
