Where the grade 4 items are
Fractions are the largest math category at 30 to 38 percent of items, ahead of computation with whole numbers at 27 to 33 percent. In English language arts, reading informational text and reading literature each take about a third. In science, Earth and space sciences lead at 31 to 40 percent.
How the answers are checked
Each math answer is arithmetic on the numbers in the question, worked out a second time by another method. The two fact passages follow a U.S. Forest Service page and a NASA page, word meanings follow the Cambridge Dictionary, and each science answer rests on the Tennessee standard or the federal page named under it.
The first math subpart and the whole science test allow no calculator, so work these questions with pencil and paper.
Questions and answers
What subjects are on the TCAP in 4th grade?
Three: English language arts, math and science. The state's blueprints for 2026-27 list social studies tests only for grades 6 to 8 and for high school U.S. history, so this page has no social studies set.
How long is the 4th grade TCAP test?
Math is 110 minutes in three subparts and science is 60 minutes in one. English language arts has a writing part of two 80-minute subparts and a reading part of 30, 40 and 30 minutes.
How many questions are on the 4th grade TCAP?
Math has 43 to 53 items, of which 37 to 42 count. Science has 30 to 31, of which 25 to 26 count. English language arts has 26 to 38 items that count. The rest are field test items.
Is the 4th grade TCAP on paper or online?
On paper. For grade 4 math, English language arts and science, the state's overviews describe a test booklet and a separate answer document in which students write their answers.
