Where a question names a dictionary or a federal science page, that page was read the same day. Licence: Own work. Questions, reading passages, answer choices and explanations were written for this site. Nothing is copied or reworded from a TCAP or TNReady test, an item release, a practice test of the state or another practice test.

How it works

Unofficial practice for Tennessee's TNReady (TCAP) tests: one set for each grade from 3 to 8. No question comes from a real test. Not affiliated with the Tennessee Department of Education.

What is in each grade's set

Every set has nine math questions, five English language arts questions and six science questions. Grades 6, 7 and 8 add five on social studies, the grades where Tennessee tests it. The English questions use sentences and short passages written for this page, because the real test's long passages cannot be copied.

How the answers are checked

Each question names the Tennessee standard it practices. Math answers were worked out again from the numbers in the question. Science and social studies answers rest on the wording of the state standards or on a named federal page, and word meanings on a named dictionary.

Questions and answers

Is TNReady the same as TCAP?

They are the same spring tests. The state's page titled TNReady is headed Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP), and its blueprints and overviews use the name TCAP.

Is there a TNReady practice test from 2018?

The state's own released math items come from the 2018-19 and 2020-21 tests and are linked from its TCAP Math page. This page is newer: its questions follow the 2026-27 blueprints and were written for this site.

Is there a printable TNReady practice test PDF?

Yes. When you finish a set, Print turns its questions into a question sheet with a line for name, date and score, and an answer key if you want one. Choose Save as PDF in the print window to keep a file.

Which grades take the TNReady test?

Grades 3 to 8 take TCAP tests in English language arts, math and science, and grades 6 to 8 also take social studies. High school students take end-of-course tests, which this page does not cover.
