What the grade 8 test covers
The state's blueprint sorts the test into four reporting categories, and the questions here keep its shares. Geometry and Data covers transformations, angles, the Pythagorean Theorem, volume, scatter plots and probability. Expressions and Equations covers slope, linear equations, systems and inequalities. Functions covers rules, rates of change and reading graphs. Number Relationships covers irrational numbers, roots, exponents and powers of ten.
How the answers are checked
Each question practices one grade 8 standard of the Tennessee Academic Standards for Mathematics, named under the answer. Every answer was worked out again from the numbers in the question. Wrong choices are common slips, such as adding exponents that should be multiplied.
Work some questions with no calculator, as the first subpart of the real test requires.
For a right triangle, write a² + b² = c² before you put the numbers in.
Questions and answers
Is TN Ready the same as TCAP?
TCAP, the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program, is the name on the state's blueprints and testing pages today. TNReady is a name the state has also used for these tests, and it still stands in the addresses of its testing pages.
Can you use a calculator on the 8th grade TN Ready math test?
On two of the three subparts. The state's calculator guidance allows a four-function or scientific calculator in grades 6 to 8, without linear graphing.
Are these real TNReady math questions?
No. Every question was written for this site from the grade 8 standards, and none is a released item. The state publishes released items of its own; the link is in the box under the questions.
