What the Nebraska 8th grade math test covers
The state table of specifications gives grade 8 four strands. Algebra and Geometry are each 25 to 35 percent. Algebra is equations with the variable on both sides, how many solutions an equation has, root equations and rate of change. Geometry is angles in triangles and parallel lines, transformations, the Pythagorean Theorem, and volumes of cones, cylinders and spheres. Number, 20 to 30 percent, is real numbers, exponents and roots. Data, 10 to 20 percent, is scatter plots and lines of best fit.
Only what the state test asks
The table marks three grade 8 indicators "Assessed at the local level", so they are left out. Every other indicator has at least one question, and its code, such as 8.G.3.b, is under the answer.
- Nebraska's grade 8 reference sheet gives the volume formulas and the Pythagorean Theorem. Practice finding them on the sheet.
Questions and answers
What is Nebraska's 8th grade end of the year math test?
NSCAS mathematics, part of the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System. The state gives it each spring to students in grades 3 to 8. This page is unofficial practice for the grade 8 test.
Where is the state's own Nebraska grade 8 math practice test?
The NSCAS Mathematics page sends grades 3 to 8 to sample tests on its test vendor's Nebraska portal; the button in the box under the questions goes there. This page is separate practice with different questions.
Can you use a calculator on the Nebraska 8th grade math test?
On part of it. The state's policy for the paper version gives grades 7 and 8 a scientific calculator for Part 1 only. Calculators are collected before the rest of the test.
How is the NSCAS grade 8 math test scored?
Nebraska reports a mathematics scale score from 1000 to 1550 and one of three achievement levels: Developing, On Track or Advanced. The documents read give no percent to pass, so a percent here is practice only.
