Where the 52 points go

Major content takes 20: exponents and scientific notation, slope, linear equations and systems, functions, transformations and the Pythagorean theorem. Additional and supporting content takes 10: irrational numbers, building a function from data, volume, scatter plots and two-way tables. Reasoning takes 10 and modeling 12. The modeling tasks reach back to grade 7 percent, scale and circle problems.

Which skills are non-calculator

The evidence tables mark each grade 8 skill. Exponent rules, roots, equations and systems solved by hand, the definition of a function and transformations are non-calculator. Unit rate and slope, the Pythagorean theorem, volume and two-way tables are calculator skills, as are all reasoning and modeling tasks. The line under each answer here carries that mark.

  • Estimate before a calculator question: the square root of 65 must sit just above 8.
  • For a system, test your pair in both equations. Each wrong choice often fits one of them.

Questions and answers

Can you use a calculator on the 8th grade PARCC math test?

On two of its three units. The unit structure makes unit 1 non-calculator and units 2 and 3 calculator units, on the full form and the short form alike.

How long is the 8th grade PARCC math test?

Three units. Each unit is 80 minutes on the full form and 60 minutes on the short form.

How many questions are on the 8th grade PARCC math test?

The full-form blueprint lists 36 scored tasks: 29 Type I, 4 Type II and 3 Type III. The short form lists 30: 24, 3 and 3. Field-test items that do not count are added to both.

Is PARCC still given in 8th grade?

Not under that name in the two places checked here. The District of Columbia was a PARCC member from 2015 to 2023 and now gives DC CAPE. New Jersey, where PARCC tests began in 2014-15, now gives the NJSLA.

What is a passing PARCC math score in 8th grade?

The test design names five performance levels on a scale of 650 to 850, not a pass mark. The District of Columbia's state education office prints Level 4 for grade 8 mathematics as 750 to 800.
