How it works
Unofficial practice for the MAP Growth tests an eighth grader takes: Math 6+, Reading 6+, Language 2+ and Science 6–8. These are this site's own questions, none from a real test. Not affiliated with NWEA, the publisher.

What grade 8 looks like here
Under the four instructional areas of NWEA's Math 6+ test, the grade 8 questions cover linear equations and systems, functions, exponents and scientific notation, the Pythagorean theorem, transformations and scatter plots. Language usage adds verb voice and mood; science leans on heredity and forces.
How the real test differs
MAP Growth is computer adaptive: NWEA says the number of questions varies as the test adapts to each answer. This page does not adapt. It asks a fixed set at grade 8 level, and its reading questions use a few sentences each.
- After a round, note the instructional area with the most misses: MAP Growth reports a score for each area too.
Questions and answers
What is on the 8th grade MAP test?
Up to four subjects, as the school chooses. Math covers algebra, the number system, geometry and statistics. Reading covers literary text, informational text and vocabulary. Language usage covers writing, grammar and mechanics. Science covers life, physical, and Earth and space science.
Is MAP testing timed?
No. NWEA calls MAP Growth untimed and gives about 45 to 60 minutes as the usual length of one test, plus 10 to 15 minutes for setup.
Is there a MAP practice test for 8th grade as a PDF?
Yes. This practice prints as a paper test with an answer key, and the print window can save it as a PDF.
How is the 8th grade MAP test scored?
With a RIT score for each subject and each instructional area, on a scale that does not depend on grade, so growth can be measured from year to year. NWEA publishes norms for comparing scores.
Is MAP Growth the same as the Missouri MAP test?
No. In Missouri, MAP is the Missouri Assessment Program, the state's own tests, run by its Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This page follows NWEA's MAP Growth and not the Missouri tests.
