How it works

Unofficial practice for an Algebra 1 EOC, state test or algebra exit exam. The questions are ours, mixed across the whole course like an end-of-course paper. It is no state's test and not affiliated with any state education agency.

Read the full guide

How the two papers are built

Each paper has 40 questions in a fixed order: 12 on linear equations, inequalities and systems, 10 on functions and their graphs, 12 on exponents, polynomials and quadratics, and 6 on data. That mix is ours, because the Common Core standards the questions follow set no proportions. Across the two papers seven questions are read from a graph, and Paper 2 repeats nothing from Paper 1.

How the answers are checked

Under each answer is the Common Core standard it practices. Every answer is algebra on the numbers in the question, worked out a second time. The names, prices and measurements are made up.

  • On a graph question, read the scale on both axes before you read a point.
  • When two choices differ only by a sign, redo the step where a term crossed the equals sign.

Questions and answers

What is on an Algebra 1 end-of-course exam?

Each state publishes its own blueprint, so check yours. These papers practice skills from the Common Core high school standards: solving linear equations, inequalities and systems, function notation, sequences, exponent rules, factoring, quadratic equations, and data such as lines of fit and two-way tables.

Which Algebra 1 state test does my state give?

It depends on the state: Florida gives the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC, New York the Regents Examination in Algebra I and Texas STAAR Algebra I. The table under the practice test names seven states' tests and links each state's own page.

How long is the Algebra 1 EOC?

There is no single length: each state sets its own number of questions, time limit and scoring. The 40 questions and the 90-minute clock here are this page's own.

Is this an HSA algebra practice test?

These papers are general Algebra 1 end-of-course practice and follow no single state's blueprint, so they are not built on an HSA outline. Your state education agency's testing page has the outline of its own test.

Are these real Algebra 1 EOC questions?

No. Each question was written for these two papers from the course standards, and none is taken or reworded from a state exam or a released form. Official sample items are on your state education agency's site.
