What the exam covers
The College Board's outline, read October 6, 2026, has four areas: algebraic operations (25%), equations and inequalities (25%), functions and their properties (30%), and number systems and operations (20%). This bank holds 30, 30, 36 and 24 questions, the same shares.
Timing
The real exam has about 60 questions to answer in 90 minutes, and some are pretest questions that are not scored. Exam mode uses the same 60 and 90.
How the math is written
Integer powers are written x² or x⁻³. Other exponents use a caret, as in 2^x or x^(1/2). √ is a square root, log₂ is a logarithm in base 2, and i is the imaginary unit.
- A CLEP exam takes no points off for a wrong answer, so answer every question.
- About half the exam is routine problems and half asks you to apply a concept, the College Board says.
Questions and answers
Is this algebra CLEP practice test the real exam?
No. Every question is our own, written to the College Board's published outline. None is copied or reworded from a real exam or an official sample question, and a score here does not predict a score there.
Is there a college algebra CLEP practice test PDF?
Yes. Print the question sheet makes a paper test of these questions, with an answer key if you tick it. Choose Save as PDF in the print window to keep it as a CLEP algebra practice test PDF.
What score do you need on the CLEP College Algebra exam?
There is no single pass mark. Scores run from 20 to 80. The American Council on Education recommends that colleges grant 3 semester hours for a score of 50, and each college sets its own policy.
Can you use a calculator on the CLEP College Algebra exam?
Yes. The College Board says a scientific, nongraphing calculator is built into the exam software for the whole test. The exam puts little weight on arithmetic.
