How it works
Level 18 is the last level of TerraNova NEXT, for grade 8. This unofficial set practices its mathematics, language and reading objectives with this site's own questions, none from a real test. Not affiliated with Data Recognition Corporation, the publisher.

What changes at Level 18
The publisher's objective sheet keeps the same eight mathematics objectives from grade 1 to grade 8 and changes the standards domains under them. At grade 8, Ratios & Proportional Relationships drops off and Functions appears beside The Number System, Expressions & Equations, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability. So the mathematics here leans on exponents, linear equations, slope, the Pythagorean theorem and scatter plots, and the language set adds verb voice and mood. The sheet names no objectives for science or social studies, and this page does not guess at them.
Worked a second time
Every mathematics answer was worked a second time. Under each answer is the Common Core standard the question practices.
- After a round, note which objective had the most misses: the real report is laid out by objective too.
Questions and answers
What is on the 8th grade Terra Nova test?
Five subjects: reading, language, mathematics, science and social studies. The publisher describes three kinds of question: multiple choice, multi-select with more than one right answer, and two-part questions whose second part asks for evidence.
How many questions are on the Terra Nova test?
The publisher gives item counts for its earlier paper edition, TerraNova3 Complete Battery. At grades 4 to 8: reading 46, language 34, mathematics 56 or 57, and science and social studies 40 each. For TerraNova NEXT it publishes testing times instead.
Is the Terra Nova used for high school placement?
It can be. The publisher's brochure lists school placement, competitive entry screening, a fall diagnostic and summative testing among its uses. How a school uses grade 8 scores is the school's own decision, so ask the school.
How is the 8th grade Terra Nova scored?
No score here predicts a real one. The publisher reports a national percentile for each subject, with the 50th percentile as the national average, plus low, moderate or high mastery for each objective.
