How it works
MAP Growth splits mathematics into tests by grade band. This unofficial page practices two of them, Math 2–5 and Math 6+, with this site's own questions sorted by NWEA's instructional areas. Not affiliated with NWEA, which publishes MAP Growth.

Two tests, eight areas
Math 2–5 reports four instructional areas: Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operations, Measurement and Data, and Geometry. Math 6+ keeps the first and last names and swaps the middle two for The Real and Complex Number Systems and Statistics and Probability. NWEA notes that areas vary by state and standard set; these are the Common Core ones.
What is left out
NWEA also has a Math K–2 test and course tests for Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry and Integrated Mathematics, which this page does not practice. Every answer here was worked a second time and names the Common Core standard behind it.
Questions and answers
What kind of math is on the MAP test?
It depends on the test. Math 2–5 covers operations, place value, fractions, measurement, data and shapes. Math 6+ covers expressions and equations, functions, ratios, the number system, geometry, statistics and probability.
How many questions are on the MAP math test?
About 40 to 43 for Math 2–5 and for Math 6+. NWEA calls the figure approximate because the test adapts to the student, and since July 2022 the most any student sees is 43.
Is the NWEA MAP math test timed?
No. NWEA describes MAP Growth as untimed: no limit is placed on how long a student has to respond. Its test summary gives about 45 to 60 minutes.
What is a RIT score in MAP math?
RIT is the scale MAP Growth results are reported on. NWEA describes it as stable and independent of grade level, and a math report gives a RIT score overall and for each instructional area.
Does this page cover the Missouri MAP math test?
No. The Missouri Assessment Program, also shortened to MAP, is Missouri's state testing program under its Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Everything on this page follows NWEA's MAP Growth.
