What the 6th grade math STAAR covers

The blueprint has 36 questions in four reporting categories. Computations and Algebraic Relationships is the largest: integer operations, fractions and decimals, ratios, rates, percents, and one-step equations and inequalities. Numerical Representations and Relationships covers ordering rational numbers, equivalent fractions, decimals and percents, exponents and prime factorization. Data Analysis and Personal Financial Literacy covers mean, median, interquartile range and bank accounts. Geometry and Measurement covers unit conversions, triangles, area, volume and the four quadrants.

How the answers are checked

Under each answer is the TEKS student expectation it practices, marked readiness or supporting as TEA marks it. Every answer was worked out again from the numbers in the question. The one fact about bank cards rests on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau page named under it.

  • Readiness standards carry most of the points: integers, fractions and decimals, percents, ratios and one-step equations.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the 6th grade math STAAR test?

36, worth 43 points. The blueprint counts 29 one-point questions and 7 two-point questions that are not multiple choice. This page has 45 questions, all multiple choice.

Is there a 6th grade math STAAR study guide?

The free one is TEA's list of eligible TEKS for grade 6 mathematics. It names every skill the test may ask and marks each one readiness or supporting. Use it as a checklist beside these questions, one reporting category at a time.

What makes a good 6th grade math STAAR test practice warm up?

Five questions from one reporting category, before class or homework. Take a different category each day, and return to the questions you missed at the end of the week.

Can you use a calculator on the 6th grade math STAAR?

No. Under TEA's calculator policy, mathematics in grades 3 to 7 is taken without one. A student who meets the eligibility criteria may use a calculator as an accommodation.

What is a passing score on the 6th grade math STAAR?

TEA sorts results into four performance levels. Approaches, Meets or Masters Grade Level means the student passed; Did Not Meet Grade Level means not passed. The levels sit on a scale score, so a percent here is not a STAAR result.
