How this list was compiled: Outline: the Grade 5 Mathematics Evidence Statement Tables of the PARCC test design, https://resources.newmeridiancorp.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Grade-5-Math-Evidence-Statements_with-ABO-subclaim-points_a11y.pdf, with the short-form Mathematics High Level Blueprint, https://resources.newmeridiancorp.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/NMC-Math-ABO-High-Level-Blueprint.pdf, both published by New Meridian and read 2026-10-12. Each question names the sub-claim and the evidence statement it practices. Every calculation is worked out again from the numbers in the question. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the published evidence statements. Nothing is copied or reworded from a PARCC test, a released item, a practice test, an example in the evidence tables or another practice test.

How it works

Fifth grade math practice that follows the PARCC test design sub-claim by sub-claim. All 52 questions are our own; none is a released item. Unofficial, and not affiliated with New Meridian, CCSSO or any state that has given PARCC tests.

How the 52 points are spread

Sub-claim A, major content, holds 20 points: place value to thousandths, multi-digit multiplication and division, the four operations with decimals, adding and multiplying fractions, and volume. Sub-claim B holds 10: expressions with parentheses, patterns, unit conversions, line plots, the coordinate plane and classifying shapes. Reasoning holds 10 and modeling 12; modeling also reaches back to grade 4 skills.

Unit one and the Common Core codes

The design gives unit 1 no topics of its own: written-answer tasks are spread through the 60-minute units, and each unit carries about the same number of points. Every evidence statement is keyed to a Common Core standard: the code under an answer, such as 5.NBT.7-2, begins with its standard, 5.NBT.7.

  • Line up the decimal points before you add or subtract. When you multiply, count the decimal places in both factors.
  • With unlike denominators, rename both fractions first. Adding the tops and the bottoms is the most common wrong choice.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the grade 5 PARCC math test?

The short-form blueprint lists 31 scored tasks worth 52 points: 25 Type I, 3 Type II and 3 Type III. The full form lists 40: 33, 4 and 3. Field-test items that do not count are added.

Is a calculator allowed on the 5th grade PARCC math test?

No. The unit structure makes every unit non-calculator in grades 3 to 5, on the four units of the full form and the three of the short form.

Is there a paper-based PARCC practice test for 5th grade math?

Yes, an unofficial one: all 52 questions print as a paper practice test with an answer key, or save as a PDF from the print window, and the same questions can be answered on screen.

What is a passing PARCC score in 5th grade math?

The design sets five performance levels on a 650 to 850 scale and no pass mark. The District of Columbia’s education office prints Level 4 for grade 5 mathematics as 750 to 789.

Is PARCC still given in 5th grade?

Not under that name in the District of Columbia, which belonged to PARCC from 2015 to 2023 and now gives DC CAPE with the same scale and sub-claims. The published test design is still online.
