What the grade 8 math test covers

The ILEARN blueprint reports four categories, and the questions here keep its shares. Number Sense: rational and irrational numbers and the properties of exponents. Algebra and Functions: linear equations and inequalities, functions, slope and intercept, and systems solved by graphing. Geometry, measurement, data and probability: transformations, the Pythagorean Theorem, cones, spheres and pyramids, scatter plots and compound events. Mathematical Processes: multi-step problems and finding the error in someone's work.

ISTEP+ or ILEARN?

The grade 8 mathematics blueprint Indiana publishes is an ILEARN blueprint. ILEARN follows the 2023 Indiana Academic Standards, and each answer here names its standard, such as 8.AF.1.

  • Three grade 8 standards are tested without a calculator: 8.NS.1, 8.NS.2 and 8.NS.3. Work the roots and exponents questions by hand.
  • The grade 8 reference sheet prints the cone, sphere and pyramid formulas and the Pythagorean Theorem. Practice choosing the right one.

Questions and answers

Is ISTEP still given in 8th grade?

ISTEP+ is not on the Indiana Department of Education's list of assessment programs. The list names ILEARN for grades 3 to 8: three Checkpoints during the school year and a summative test in April to May.

How many questions are on the 8th grade ILEARN math test?

The blueprint gives 32 to 37 operational items for the end-of-year summative test and 20 to 25 for each of the three Checkpoints given during the year. The test is computer adaptive.

Can you use a calculator on the 8th grade ILEARN math test?

On most of it. The state designates standards 8.NS.1, 8.NS.2 and 8.NS.3 as non-calculator and the other grade 8 standards as calculator standards, with an online scientific calculator provided.

What is a passing score on 8th grade ILEARN math?

Grade 8 mathematics scores run from 453 to 897. The cut score for At Proficiency is 661, and for Above Proficiency it is 738. A percent right here is not a scale score.
