How this list was compiled: Outline: NSCAS Math Table of Specifications, Grades 3 to 8 (Nebraska Department of Education, version 5, six documents), linked from NSCAS Mathematics, https://www.education.ne.gov/assessment/nscas-general-summative-assessment/nscas-mathematics/, read 2026-10-09. Each question names the indicator it practices as its grade's table prints it, from Nebraska's College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics (2022). Only indicators the tables mark for the state test are used; none marked "Assessed at the local level". Every answer is arithmetic on the numbers in the question, worked out twice. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site. Nothing is copied or reworded from an NSCAS test, a sample or practice test of the state or its test vendor, a released item or another practice test.
How it works
Unofficial practice for NSCAS mathematics, the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System test for grades 3 to 8. Our own questions, none from a real test or the state's sample tests. Not affiliated with the Nebraska Department of Education.

What the NSCAS math test covers
Nebraska's tables of specifications give each grade a share for each strand, and each set of ten here follows its grade's table. In grades 3 to 5, Number is the largest strand, 35 to 45 percent: place value, fractions and decimals. Grades 6 and 7 add Ratios and Proportions. By grade 8, Algebra and Geometry are each 25 to 35 percent: multi-step equations, rate of change, angles, transformations and volume. Every grade has a Data strand.
How each answer is checked
Under each answer is its Nebraska indicator, such as 6.R.2.e, and the steps. Only indicators the tables mark for the state test are used, not those assessed at the local level.
Nebraska posts a math reference sheet for each grade from 4 to 8. Learn what is on yours before test day.
Questions and answers
What is on the NSCAS math test?
Four strands in grades 3 to 5 and in grade 8: Number, Algebra, Geometry and Data. Grades 6 and 7 have a fifth, Ratios and Proportions. The state's table of specifications for each grade lists the indicators tested.
Is there an NSCAS practice math test from the state?
Yes. Nebraska's NSCAS Mathematics page points to sample tests for grades 3 to 8 on its test vendor's Nebraska portal, linked in the box under the questions. This page is separate, unofficial practice.
How is the NSCAS math test scored?
Nebraska reports a mathematics scale score from 1000 to 1550 and one of three achievement levels: Developing, On Track or Advanced. A percent on this page is practice only.
Can you use a calculator on the NSCAS math test?
The state's policy for the paper version gives grades 3 to 5 no calculator. Grade 6 may use a four-function calculator and grades 7 and 8 a scientific one, on the first part of the test only.
