What 4th grade CMAS math covers
The grade 4 framework divides 50 to 51 score points among four reporting categories, and each of the 50 questions here stands for one point. Major content has 24: place value up to 1,000,000, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing large numbers, fractions, decimals to hundredths and "times as many" comparisons. Supporting content has 7: factors, number patterns, units of measure, perimeter, line plots and triangles. Reasoning has 10, which ask why a method works or what is wrong with a worked answer. Modeling has 9 word problems that take more than one step.
Fourth grade fraction questions keep to the denominators 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 100, by Colorado's evidence statements.
Questions and answers
Where are Colorado's own CMAS practice tests for 4th grade?
On the state's practice site, which the Colorado Department of Education calls the only state-sanctioned CMAS practice resources. It is linked in the box under the questions. Nothing on this page is taken from there.
Can 4th graders use a calculator on CMAS math?
No. Colorado's calculator policy allows none in grades 3 to 5. The one exception is a four-function calculator for a student with an approved accommodation.
What is a good CMAS math score in 4th grade?
Scores run from 650 to 850 in five performance levels. In grade 4 math, Met Expectations is 750 to 795 and Exceeded Expectations is 796 to 850. The state counts both as on track for college and career.
Which CMAS tests do 4th graders take?
Math and English language arts. Science is given in grades 5, 8 and 11 and social studies in grade 7, so fourth grade has neither. This page covers math only.
