What the Mississippi state test for 3rd grade math covers

The MAAP blueprint gives each reporting category a share of the points, and the questions here follow it. Operations and Algebraic Thinking is the largest, at 37 to 46 percent: multiplication and division within 100, unknown numbers and two-step word problems. Measurement and Data covers time, grams and liters, graphs, area and perimeter. Fractions keep to the denominators 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8. Base Ten covers rounding and adding and subtracting within 1,000, and Geometry covers quadrilaterals and equal parts. Each answer names its standard, such as 3.OA.8, in the 2025 Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics.

Questions and answers

Does the Mississippi Department of Education have a 3rd grade practice test?

Yes. Its ELA and Math Resources page lists a Grade 3 Math Practice test and a Grade 3 Math Sampler, each with a key, and the same two for ELA. Nothing here is taken from them.

How many questions are on the 3rd grade MAAP math test?

The grade 3 blueprint lists 49 operational items worth 52 points and 9 field test items, 58 in all, given in a single session.

How long is the 3rd grade MAAP math test?

The blueprint sets one session of 180 minutes, which is 3 hours. Timing accommodations exist for a student with a documented need.

Is this the 3rd grade MAAP reading test?

No. This page is mathematics only. The department lists its 3rd Grade Reading Assessment and its Grade 3 ELA practice test on its own student assessment pages.

Can 3rd graders use a calculator or a ruler on the MAAP math test?

No calculator: the state's policy allows none in grades 3 to 5. A ruler is a required tool in grades 3 to 8, and the online test provides one on screen.
