How this list was compiled: Test areas: New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services, Notice of Examination, Firefighter, Exam No. 4044, fourth amended notice of June 4, 2025 (https://www.nyc.gov/assets/dcas/downloads/pdf/noes/20244044000.pdf), read 2026-10-04. The notice says the computer-based test evaluates basic abilities such as Reading, Listening, Problem Solving and Basic Arithmetic and assesses the way candidates approach work, interact with others and concentrate on details. The questions are our own. Licence: Own work. Every passage, notice, figure, map and name in this bank was made up for this site, and every answer can be worked out from the words of its own question. Nothing is taken from a real examination, an agency tutorial or a prep book.

How it works

What the notice lists, and what is missing here

The fourth amended notice of June 4, 2025 says the computer-based test "will evaluate basic abilities, such as Reading, Listening, Problem Solving, Basic Arithmetic and related areas" and the way candidates "approach work, interact with others, and concentrate on details". No listening questions are here, since the tool has no sound, and none on approach to work or working with others.

Firefighter math test

Set the Start from menu under the question to Firefighter math: hose lengths, crew counts, weights, rates and unit changes, with every number in the question.

Round and paper

Exam mode, under the question, draws 30, our number. The notice prints no question count or passing figure, so a round ends with a score only.

  • Work each sum on paper before you look at the choices.
  • The Missed pile, under More options, keeps what you got wrong. Clear my progress, under More options, erases what this browser keeps.

Questions and answers

Are these real fire department test questions?

No. Real exams are closed. Every question here is our own, and none comes from a real exam, a test publisher or a prep book. This site is not affiliated with any fire department or civil service commission.

Will this firefighter written exam practice test match my department's test?

Only as far as your department's notice lists the same areas. This bank follows one city's notice. Your own notice or candidate guide says what your written exam covers, so read it first.

Does it cover the physical test?

No. The notice describes a computer-based test and a qualifying physical ability test and says candidates must pass both. This page practices four areas of the computer-based test only.

Why are there no fire science questions?

The notice lists basic abilities, not fire science, hydraulics, equipment or first aid. So no question here states a fact about fire, water pressure or equipment, and nothing on this page is safety training.
