What the California law questions cover

Six groups: agent licensing and continuing education, life policy provisions, annuities and replacement, disability insurance provisions, unfair practices and sales to seniors, and the guarantee association. The Insurance Code calls accident and health coverage disability insurance. Questions you miss are held in a pile for a second try.

Studying for life insurance alone

California issues the life license and the accident and health or sickness license as two types. For life alone, set the topic filter to Life policy provisions, then to Annuities and replacement. Agent licensing and the guarantee association belong to both. Each answer names its Insurance Code section and links to leginfo.legislature.ca.gov.

  • Continuing education for a life agent: 24 hours before each renewal, three of them in ethics (Insurance Code Sec. 1749.33).
  • An individual life policy carries a grace period of at least 60 days from the premium due date (Insurance Code Sec. 10113.71).
  • Prelicensing: 12 hours of study on ethics and the code, one of them on insurance fraud (Insurance Code Sec. 1749).

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the California life insurance exam?

That number is not on this page. The Insurance Code sections read for this bank set no test length, time limit or pass mark, and Exam mode draws 25 questions as a set size, nothing more.

Is life insurance a separate license from health insurance in California?

Yes. Insurance Code Sec. 1626 lists life and accident and health or sickness as two license types. Under Sec. 1676 an applicant for both may qualify by passing one examination covering the subjects of both.

How many continuing education hours does a California life agent need?

24 hours of instruction before each renewal, three of them in ethics, under Insurance Code Sec. 1749.33. A person licensed as both a life agent and an accident and health or sickness agent also completes a total of 24 hours.

Is there a California life and health insurance exam questions PDF?

No PDF file is offered here. The questions run in the page, and each answer names its Insurance Code section and links to it. Print, on the score card, puts the bank's questions on paper.

Are these the real California life insurance exam questions?

No. Nobody here has seen the state exam. The questions were written from the California Insurance Code, and the California Department of Insurance did not write or review them.
