What the Tennessee questions ask
Six groups: producer licensing and continuing education, life policy provisions, replacement and annuity sales, accident and health provisions, unfair practices and penalties, and the guaranty association. Nine questions come straight from acts passed since 2022, among them the 2023 act that ended the prelicensing course requirement.
Where the Tennessee law was read
The department's rules were read on the Secretary of State's site. Code sections were read in a public copy dated May 21, 2021, then checked against every later act that amends Title 56. Each answer links to the text that was read.
- Fail the exam once and the wait to reapply is 10 calendar days; after a second fail it is 30 (T.C.A. 56-6-105).
- A replacing agent licensed under 120 days waits 10 days after mailing notice before taking the application (Rule 0780-01-24-.05).
- Death claim interest runs from the fifteenth day after death, compounded annually, for up to three years (T.C.A. 56-7-315).
Questions and answers
What is the passing score on the Tennessee insurance license exam?
Rule 0780-01-56-.07 of the Department of Commerce and Insurance sets seventy percent as the minimum passing score. The rule gives no exam length or time limit, so this page gives none, and the 25 questions of exam mode are only a set size.
Does Tennessee still require a prelicensing course for a life and health license?
No. Public Chapter 57 of 2023 deleted the prelicensing course of study from T.C.A. 56-6-106. An applicant still passes the examination, is at least 18 and pays the fees. A 2024 act asks 30 course hours for title insurance only.
How many continuing education hours does a Tennessee insurance producer need?
Twenty-four credit hours every two years, three of them in ethics (Rule 0780-01-56-.08). T.C.A. 56-6-107 excuses a producer who has been continuously licensed since January 1, 1994.
Are these the real Tennessee insurance exam questions?
No. They are practice questions written for this site from the Tennessee Code, recent acts and department rules. The state exam belongs to the Department of Commerce and Insurance, which has not reviewed this page.
