How this list was compiled: Own questions, written from the Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 55 (chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 50), and from the Department of Safety rule chapter 1340-01-13. The department says to study the Comprehensive Driver License Manual for the For-Hire knowledge test. Nothing here was taken from that manual, so this bank does not cover everything in it. Statute text was read from the State of Tennessee's bulk release of the code dated 2021-05-21, republished by Public.Resource.Org at https://archive.org/download/gov.tn.tca/release76.2021.05.21/gov.tn.tca.title.55.html, and the section links open that 2021 copy. On 2026-09-18 the cited sections were compared with 205 enacted Public Chapters of the 112th to 114th General Assemblies (2021 to 2026) that amend Title 55, found through the General Assembly's bill subject index. The state lists its acts at https://sos.tn.gov/publications/services/acts-and-resolutions. Questions on text changed since 2021 cite the amending act: 2022 Pub. Ch. 1012, 2023 Pub. Ch. 354, 2024 Pub. Ch. 836 and 2025 Pub. Ch. 297. The state's current code is hosted for it by LexisNexis at https://www.lexisnexis.com/hottopics/tncode/. Rule text: https://publications.tnsosfiles.com/rules/1340/1340-01/1340-01-13.20210928.pdf (revised September 2021), read 2026-09-18. Exam facts: the agency's For-Hire endorsement page, https://www.tn.gov/safety/driver-services/classd/classf.html, read 2026-09-18, gives a vision screening, a For-Hire knowledge test, a $4.50 fee, age 18 (16 for family-business deliveries) and two years of unrestricted driving, and publishes no question count, pass mark or time limit. The 80 percent pass mark comes from Rule 1340-01-13-.15(1)(b), which covers knowledge tests for original license applicants in general and does not name the For-Hire test. Licence: Own work. Statutes, acts and rules of the State of Tennessee are cited as the source of each fact and are not copied as questions.
How it works
This free F endorsement practice test is unofficial, and the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security has not reviewed it. The real For-Hire test uses the state's Comprehensive Driver License Manual. These 71 questions were written from the law behind it, so they do not cover everything in the manual.

Who needs the F endorsement
The For-Hire endorsement lets you drive a Class D vehicle as a chauffeur: a person employed for the principal purpose of driving, or anyone driving a public or common carrier of persons or property (T.C.A. 55-50-102). The department names taxi, shuttle, courier and delivery drivers, and says plumbers and meter readers do not need one. A vehicle rated 26,001 pounds or more, or built for 16 or more people counting the driver, needs a CDL instead.
What the real For-Hire test looks like
The test is taken in person at a Driver Services Center after a vision screening, so an F endorsement practice test online is for study only. The department's page, checked September 18, 2026, lists a $4.50 fee, a minimum age of 18 (16 for family-business deliveries) and two years of unrestricted driving. Exam mode marks a pass at 80 percent, the state's general line for license knowledge tests (Rule 1340-01-13-.15), which does not name the For-Hire test.
Start with Railroad crossings in the Start from menu: vehicles carrying passengers for hire must stop at grade crossings unless a police officer or traffic signal directs traffic to proceed (T.C.A. 55-8-147).
An F endorsement practice test TN drivers can take on a phone: one tap marks your answer. Wrong answers wait under Missed, kept on this device only.
An authorized passenger carrier for hire may load or unload in a no-parking place only where the vehicle can be seen clearly from 200 feet in each direction (T.C.A. 55-8-160).
Questions and answers
Are these the questions on the real For-Hire test?
No. The state says the For-Hire test uses Section B of its Comprehensive Driver License Manual, and this bank copies nothing from it. Each question was written from Tennessee Code Title 55 or Rule 1340-01-13. Most links open a 2021 copy of Title 55, or the amending act where the law changed later. Read Section B too.
How many questions are on the F endorsement test?
The state does not say. The department's For-Hire page gives no question count, pass mark or time limit. Exam mode draws 25 of the 71 questions, a length this site chose.
Do CDL holders need the F endorsement?
No. The state's driver license rule says the For-Hire endorsement is required of a chauffeur operating a Class D vehicle and is not required for persons holding Commercial Driver Licenses (Rule 1340-01-13-.04).
