(1) Chapter 9-104 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, "Public Chauffeurs", in the copy the city's license page links to: American Legal Publishing, https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/chicago/latest/chicago_il/0-0-0-2647818, supplement 2026 S-74, with amendments through Coun. J. 4-15-26. (4) Seven questions on safe driving rest on the department's "Public Chauffeur Safe Driving Training Components" of May 21, 2026, which lists what every approved course must teach and quiz: https://www.chicago.gov/content/dam/city/depts/bacp/publicvehicleinfo/publicchauffer/publicchauffeursafedrivingtrainingcomponents20260521.pdf. That a new applicant must complete a course and pass a final licensing examination within 6 months of applying is from the department's "Steps & Checklist" for new applicants (January 6, 2025) and its license page, https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/bacp/provdrs/vehic/svcs/publicchauffeur.html. Section 9-104-090(c) of the code lists six subjects the course must include, and a City Colleges course flyer linked from the license page adds Chicago geography and navigation. This bank covers the city's code, the chauffeur rules and the safe driving components. It has no geography or navigation questions, and it does not stand in for the accessibility training. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the published text of the Municipal Code of Chicago and of the department's rules and training components. Nothing is taken from a course provider's materials, from the licensing examination or from another practice test.
How it works
This unofficial Chicago chauffeur practice test has 160 questions from the city's public chauffeur code and rules. The real licensing exam follows a city-approved course that also teaches Chicago geography, which these questions do not cover.

What the Chicago chauffeur license test is
A new applicant for a taxi or restricted (livery) chauffeur license completes a city-approved course and passes its licensing exam within six months of applying (Municipal Code 9-104-050, Rule CH1.02). The city publishes no question count, time limit or pass mark, so the 40 questions of Exam mode are this site's own number.
Where the questions come from
Each question restates one section of Chapter 9-104 or 9-112 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, one of the department's Public Chauffeur Rules, or its safe driving training components of May 21, 2026.
Refusing a passenger with a service animal brings a $500 fine and a 29-day suspension, then revocation the second time (Municipal Code 9-104-130).
The meter starts at $3.25 for the first 1/9 mile, then adds $0.31 for each further 1/9 mile or 45 seconds (9-112-600).
A taxi back from an airport short trip has 60 minutes by day and 45 at night to use the Short Trip lane (Rule CH8.03).
