Which tests Utah gives
Rules R68-7-10 and R68-7-12 have commercial and non-commercial applicants pass the pesticide applicator core test, then at least one category test. A private applicator takes the private pesticide applicator test.
What this bank covers
R68-7-10 has applicants show knowledge of pesticide applications, laws and other subjects. This bank practices the Utah law, from statute and rule. Federal label and worker protection rules are on the pesticide applicator practice test.
Retests
After two attempts below 70 percent, the wait is at least 24 hours before retesting on the failed tests. A mock exam here is 40 questions, our number; the rule prints no question count.
- The temporary permit emailed after the tests lasts 30 days.
- Commercial recertification without retesting takes 24 CEU credits: at least two in law, six in safety and ten in pesticide use.
- Application records are written within 24 hours and kept at least two years.
Questions and answers
Is this the real Utah pesticide applicator test?
No. It is unofficial practice written for this site from the Utah Pesticide Control Act and rule R68-7. The real tests are given for the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food at approved testing centers, and none of their questions are here.
What score passes the Utah pesticide applicator test?
70 percent on the core test and on each category test, by R68-7-10. The private pesticide applicator test also takes 70 percent, by R68-7-13.
Where do I take the Utah pesticide license test?
At a testing center approved by the department, which lists them on its website. The rule lets a testing center set its own test and retest fees. A local Utah State University Extension agent may proctor the private applicator test.
How long is a Utah pesticide applicator license good for?
Until December 31 of the third calendar year from licensure, by R68-7-11. An application completed between November 1 and December 31 is licensed for the rest of that year and the following three calendar years.
Which Utah pesticide license do I need?
The department lists commercial for work for hire, non-commercial for restricted use pesticides on an employer's property, and private for restricted use pesticides on your own property, typically a farm. Since 2026 the act also has permits for ornamental and turf technicians and salespersons.
