What the Utah barber assessment is
Since January 1, 2026 the practice of barbering takes a barbering permit, earned on one assessment that mixes hands-on tasks on a mannequin with multiple-choice blocks (Utah Code 58-11a-302.10; Candidate Information Bulletin effective January 1, 2026, opened October 14, 2026).
What this bank asks
The bulletin's own skill lists for the tapered haircut, blow dry, facial shave and blood exposure procedure; rule R392-702, which the bulletin cites for sanitation; and the permit law. Hair and scalp analysis and disorders, 23 percent of the outline, rest on textbooks and are left out.
- The shave strokes on the skill list: freehand for areas 1, 3 and 4, backhand for area 2, reverse-freehand for area 5.
- Disinfectant comes as wipes in the maker's container, labeled in English as EPA-registered, bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal.
Questions and answers
Is there a free Utah barber practice test?
Yes. Every question here is free and names the bulletin section, the rule or the Utah Code section behind its answer. They are our own questions; none comes from the assessment.
How many questions are on the Utah barber exam?
The bulletin gives 48 multiple-choice questions, 8 of them unscored, answered in four blocks of 12 questions and 12 minutes, around 98 hands-on tasks. A timed round here is 48 questions in 48 minutes.
What is the passing score for the Utah barber permit exam?
The bulletin prints none: it gives 142 total scored points and no pass mark. A round here ends with a score and no pass or fail. Ask the Division of Professional Licensing for the current standard.
How many hours do you need for a barber license in Utah?
A barbering permit takes 130 hours of school or apprenticeship; a master barbering license, which adds chemical services, takes 1,000 (Utah Code 58-11a-302.10 and 302.19). A barbering license issued before 2026 may be renewed as a legacy barbering license.
Does the Utah barber assessment use a live model?
No. The bulletin has every service performed on a full-size mannequin head; live models are not accepted, and smaller junior heads are not permitted.
