How it works
These 49 unofficial questions cover the temporary-event half of the booklet the New York City Fire Department publishes for the F-03 and F-04 certificates (revised January 2026, read October 5, 2026). Explanations give the section each fact sits in.

Six topics from the booklet
The Start from menu drills one part at a time: the exam and the certificate, orientation and equipment, checks before the event, what is prohibited at events, medical and other emergencies, occupancy groups and terms.
Exam mode follows the notice
A timed round here is 20 questions in 30 minutes with a 70 percent pass line, matching the F-04 notice. The real exam also draws on the booklet's duties, alarm systems and fire emergencies; those questions are on the F-03 page.
- By the booklet, safety personnel arrive at least 1 hour before a temporary event and stay until every audience member has left.
- The minimum number of safety personnel for a temporary event is written on the TPA permit.
- The F-04 exam leaves out one section of the shared booklet: the precautions for theaters (section 2).
Questions and answers
How many questions does the F-04 test have?
Twenty, all multiple choice, answered on a touch-screen computer within 30 minutes; a score of 70 percent or more passes. Those are the January 2026 booklet's figures, and the department can revise them.
Are these the real F-04 exam questions?
No. This site has never seen the department's exam and is not affiliated with the New York City Fire Department. All 49 were composed from the public booklet's facts, without borrowing its sample questions. No certificate holder has reviewed them yet.
Who is the F-04 meant for?
The booklet gives the F-04 to people who work only at temporary place of assembly events in different places, such as festivals and outdoor concerts. Safety personnel may be required where 200 or more people gather outdoors.
Does the F-03 cover the F-04?
The booklet says a person who passes the F-03 exam may pay an added $25 fee to receive the F-04 without taking its exam. The two share one study booklet, and the F-04 exam leaves out the theater section.
