Six topics from the booklet
The Start from menu drills one part at a time: the exam and the certificate, where a coordinator is needed and the duties, the emergency preparedness plan, staff training, emergency drills, the fire alarm control panel.
Exam mode follows the notice
The F-80 notice describes 50 questions in 75 minutes with 70 percent to pass. Exam mode here uses those same three figures and this site's own questions.
- Two rhythms to keep apart: drills run monthly on each shift; staff refresher training runs at least 1 hour quarterly on each shift.
- The drill procedure starts with a call to the central station to take the alarm system off-line (section 7.1).
- Resetting the system leaves trouble conditions uncleared (section 10.1).
Questions and answers
How many questions and minutes is the F-80 exam?
Fifty multiple-choice questions and 75 minutes, with 70 percent needed to pass, says the notice in the booklet revised January 2026. Because notices are revised from time to time, confirm the figures on the department's site.
Are these the real F-80 exam questions?
No. This site has never seen the department's exam and is not affiliated with the New York City Fire Department. The booklet supplied the facts and this site the wording; the booklet's printed samples are not used. No certificate holder has reviewed them yet.
Where is an F-80 coordinator required?
In homeless shelters, the booklet says, including any building that must have a one-way voice communication system and is run or occupied for over fifteen persons for longer than 30 days; emergency shelters count. The certificate is premises-related.
Is a class required before the F-80 exam?
The booklet's notice says every applicant attends the class and brings a completion certificate from a department-approved school to take the written exam. This page is practice only and is not that class.
