How it works

The Connecticut exam sits inside the application

C.G.S. 3-94b(b)(3) makes a written examination, approved or administered by the Secretary, a condition of appointment. The Secretary of the State's Notary Public Licensing page, read October 13, 2026, says the online application contains that examination, on its Notary Public Manual, completed under oath.

Three Connecticut rules these questions drill

Two current documents to prove identity, a certificate and oath recorded with the town clerk within 30 days, and no remote acknowledgment for a will, a power of attorney or a real estate closing (C.G.S. 3-94a, 3-94c, 3-95b).

  • The term is five years and ends on the last day of the month of appointment (C.G.S. 3-94c).
  • A notary may not notarize a document that the notary also signs (C.G.S. 3-94g).
  • Without a seal or stamp, print "Notary Public" and "My commission expires" with the date near the signature (C.G.S. 3-94k).

Questions and answers

What score passes the CT notary test?

Every answer must be right. The Secretary of the State's licensing page, read October 13, 2026, prints no question count, so an exam set here is 25 questions, a size this page chose. A full score shows you know the statutes, not the state's questions.

Are these the real Connecticut notary exam questions?

No. This site has never seen the state's examination and is not affiliated with the Connecticut Secretary of the State. Every question was written from the Connecticut General Statutes. No commissioned Connecticut notary has reviewed the answers yet.

How much can a notary charge in CT?

No more than $10 an act since July 1, 2026, when Public Act 26-81 raised it from $5, plus mileage at no more than the IRS business standard rate (C.G.S. 3-95). The General Assembly's online chapter still prints $5.

How much does it cost to become a notary in CT?

$120 with the application, nonrefundable (C.G.S. 3-94b). Reappointment after five years costs $60 (C.G.S. 3-94d). The Secretary of the State's page says the fee is waived for active state employees who attest to that status.

Does a Connecticut notary need a seal or a journal?

Neither is required. C.G.S. 3-94j says a notary may keep and use a seal. The Secretary of the State's manual says state law does not require a journal, though the office strongly recommends one.
