What the Missouri barber written exam is

Missouri uses the National Barber Styling Theory Examination (national bulletin effective June 1, 2025; the Board's bulletin of January 2026; both opened October 14, 2026). Scientific concepts are 35 percent, implements and equipment 10, hair care services 40, facial hair and skin care 15.

What this page practices

This bank does not follow that outline. It asks Missouri's own text: the barber sanitation rule 20 CSR 2085-11.010, the shop rules of chapter 10 and chapter 328 RSMo on the license. Every answer shows its section.

  • Styptic pencils are barred; a cut gets liquid or spray styptic from an applicator (20 CSR 2085-11.010).
  • Hot water at lavatories and shampoo bowls may not exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit (20 CSR 2085-11.010).
  • A barber who rents a chair in a licensed shop needs a separate establishment license for it (20 CSR 2085-10.010).

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Missouri barber written exam?

The national bulletin gives 110 items, 100 of which count toward the score, and 90 minutes. A round on this page is shorter and asks Missouri's own rules.

What score do you need to pass the Missouri barber exam?

Rule 20 CSR 2085-5.010 sets 75 for the written examination and 75 for the practical. A candidate who fails one portion retakes only that portion.

Is Missouri state law on the barber written exam?

The published outline lists four theory domains and no state law. The sanitation rule still binds every shop: section 328.160 makes failing to comply with the Board's sanitary rules a class C misdemeanor.

Are these the real Missouri barber exam questions?

No. Each was written for this page from chapter 328 RSMo and the Board's rules in 20 CSR 2085, with the section under each answer. Nothing comes from the examination or from a textbook.

How many hours do you need for a barber license in Missouri?

Section 328.080 asks for at least 1,000 hours in a barber school over not less than six months, or no less than 2,000 hours as an apprentice. Applicants must be seventeen or older.
