What the Colorado barber theory test is
The Colorado Barber Test Taker Guide (version 1.6, effective June 23, 2026; opened October 14, 2026) weights safety and infection control 31 percent, consultation and analysis 15, hairstyling 5, haircutting 8, haircoloring 7, chemical texture 7, skin care 5 and shaving 22.
What this page practices
This bank does not follow that outline. It asks Colorado's own text: Rule 1.7 of 4 CCR 731-1 on infection control, the rules on licenses, places of business and inspections, and the Act as House Bill 26-1181 amended it in 2026.
After a hair service, all hair on the floor, chair and station goes into a closed trash container at once (Rule 1.7).
Tools never ride in pockets, aprons or holsters (Rule 1.7).
Since 2026 the definition of barbering reads hair lightening and coloring, where it once read dyeing the hair (C.R.S. 12-105-104).
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Colorado barber theory test?
The Test Taker Guide lists 85 scored questions and 10 unscored experimental ones, with 120 minutes to finish. A round on this page is shorter and asks Colorado's own rules.
What score do you need to pass the Colorado barber exam?
At least 70 percent on the theory test and at least 70 percent on the practical test, the guide says. The practical test must be passed before the theory test can be scheduled.
Is Colorado state law on the barber theory test?
The published outline names safety, federal regulations and barber services, not Colorado's Act or rules. Rule 1.7 covers the ground of its largest topic, and Rule 1.10 lets an inspector issue a violation notice for breaking the rules.
Are these the real Colorado barber exam questions?
No. Each was written for this page from 4 CCR 731-1, the Barber and Cosmetologist Act and House Bill 26-1181, with the rule or section under each answer. Nothing comes from the test or the textbooks its guide lists.
How many hours do you need for a barber license in Colorado?
The Act caps what the Director may require of a barber at fifty credits or 1,500 contact hours (C.R.S. 12-105-111). Applicants must be at least sixteen.
