How this list was compiled: Written from the Colorado Revised Statutes, Title 42 (Vehicles and Traffic), 2026 edition, sections 42-2-103, 42-4-1501, 42-4-1502, 42-4-232, 42-4-205, 42-4-223, 42-4-220, 42-4-109, 42-4-1503, 42-1-102, read on 2026-09-30 in the title file published by the General Assembly's Office of Legislative Legal Services, https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-42.htm (the file the Colorado car bank links). Every link opens that one file; the section number is the search term. That a written test comes first is on the Division of Motor Vehicles page https://dmv.colorado.gov/drivers/im-motorcycle-driver, read with a browser on 2026-09-30: pass the motorcycle written exam, buy a motorcycle instruction permit, then pass a motorcycle drive skills test, or complete a Motorcycle Operator Safety Training course instead. C.R.S. 42-2-103(1)(b) has the department require an applicant for the endorsement to demonstrate care and control. That page gives no number of questions and no pass mark, so neither is used. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from the Colorado motorcycle handbook, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or another practice test.
How it works
This unofficial Colorado motorcycle permit practice test has 47 questions from Title 42 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, with the section under each. It covers the law only; riding technique is in the state's motorcycle handbook, so study that too.

Two endorsements, and helmets under 18
A general motorcycle endorsement covers any motorcycle; a limited three-wheel endorsement covers three-wheel motorcycles only, and an autocycle needs neither (C.R.S. 42-2-103). Riders and passengers under 18 wear a helmet that meets federal standard no. 218 (42-4-1502). A low-power scooter takes a valid driver's license and stays off sidewalks.
What the DMV publishes about the test
The Division of Motor Vehicles page, read September 2026, lists the steps: pass the motorcycle written exam, buy an instruction permit, then pass a drive skills test, or complete a Motorcycle Operator Safety Training course instead. For the Colorado motorcycle permit test it gives no question count or pass mark, so none is shown. Use this Colorado motorcycle license practice test for the statute half.
The links under the answers all open one file, the 2026 text of Title 42; search it for the section number printed beside the link.
Questions and answers
Is lane filtering legal in Colorado?
For now, in one case. Until September 1, 2027, a two-wheeled motorcycle may pass stopped vehicles in its own lane at 15 miles per hour or less when the adjacent lanes are stopped too, and never on the right shoulder (C.R.S. 42-4-1503).
Do you need a motorcycle endorsement for a three-wheeler in Colorado?
Yes, unless it is an autocycle. A limited three-wheel motorcycle endorsement covers three-wheel motorcycles only; the general endorsement covers every motorcycle. An autocycle driver needs only a valid driver's license (C.R.S. 42-2-103).
Is this the Colorado DMV's written exam?
No. It is a private, unofficial practice set, and the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles neither wrote nor approved it. This is not a government website. The questions come from Title 42 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, section by section.
