How this list was compiled: Written from the General Statutes of Connecticut, Title 14, chapters 246 and 248, as published by the Connecticut General Assembly at https://www.cga.ct.gov/current/pub/title_14.htm (revised to January 1, 2025), with the 2026 Supplement at https://www.cga.ct.gov/2026/sup/chap_246.htm and https://www.cga.ct.gov/2026/sup/chap_248.htm used wherever it replaces a section, all checked 2026-09-19. Each question names its section and links to it. Exam facts on the page come from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, https://portal.ct.gov/dmv/licenses-permits-ids/get-learners-permit/get-motorcycle-learners-permit, checked 2026-09-19: a 16-question knowledge test taken by appointment with a vision test, and a permit valid 60 days. That page states no pass mark; the 20 of 25 mark on the DMV's knowledge test page is given for the 25-question car test only, so no pass mark is used here. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from the Connecticut Motorcycle Operator's Manual, the Driver's Manual or another practice test.
How it works
Title 14 of the Connecticut General Statutes supplies all 93 questions in this unofficial Connecticut motorcycle permit practice test, with the CGS section under each. Expect the 60-day permit, headgear for every permit holder and anyone under 21, three months with the endorsement before a passenger, and no passing between lanes. Riding technique is not covered. Statutes checked September 2026.

Connecticut's 60-day permit, headgear under 21
CGS 14-40a gives the instruction permit 60 days and one more 60, keeps it off multiple lane limited access highways and puts every permit holder in headgear. CGS 14-289g, amended in 2025, asks for headgear under 21, not 18. CGS 14-289a makes a new rider wait three months before carrying anyone, six at 16 or 17. CGS 14-289b bans riding between lanes.
What the DMV publishes about the test
The DMV's motorcycle learner's permit page, checked September 2026, describes a 16-question knowledge test based on the Motorcycle Operator's Manual and the Driver's Manual, taken by appointment with a vision test. It lists $40 for the two tests, $16 for the permit and $30 to add the M endorsement, and gives no pass mark. This CT motorcycle permit practice test is statute-only, with no riding-technique questions. Missed questions wait under Missed, and Clear my progress wipes them.
Set Start from to Permits and the endorsement first: age 16, 60 days and one more 60 sit in CGS 14-40a.
Learn where the lamp sections treat a motorcycle apart: one or two head lamps, one tail lamp, one reflector, one stop lamp, no windshield rule.
Keep three machines apart: a motor-driven cycle sits 26 inches or higher under 50 cc, a mini-motorcycle sits lower, and an autocycle needs no M.
Questions and answers
How long is the Connecticut DMV's motorcycle knowledge test?
Sixteen questions, according to the DMV's motorcycle learner's permit page, checked September 2026. The page states no pass mark for those 16, so this page prints none and shows a score without a pass or fail line. Exam mode here draws 16 questions to match.
How long does a CT motorcycle permit last?
Sixty days. CGS 14-40a(b) allows a renewal, or a new permit, for an additional sixty days, and CGS 14-49 sets the fee at $16 each time. You must be at least 16, carry the permit while riding, wear headgear at any age and stay off multiple lane limited access highways.
Did the Connecticut DMV write any of these questions?
None of them. The page is unaffiliated with the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and built from the General Statutes as revised to 1 January 2026, not copied from either manual. Study the DMV's two manuals for what this bank does not hold, riding technique above all.
