How this list was compiled: Written from the New Mexico Statutes Annotated 1978 (NMSA 1978), Chapter 66, Motor Vehicles: Sections 66-1-4.1, 66-1-4.11, 66-3-1.4, 66-3-804, 66-3-806, 66-3-807, 66-3-840, 66-3-842, 66-3-846, 66-3-1101, 66-5-2, 66-5-4, 66-5-5, 66-5-8, 66-5-14, 66-5-65, 66-7-355, 66-7-356, 66-7-405 and 66-10-10, as published by the New Mexico Compilation Commission on NMOneSource, https://nmonesource.com/nmos/nmsa/en/item/4422/index.do, each read on 2026-10-04. Each question names its section and links to it. That a knowledge test is part of the endorsement is Section 66-5-14(A). The 70 percent pass mark is the Motor Vehicle Division's own figure, from its Driver Procedures Manual, Chapter 11, Section E ("All class D and M written test scores must be 70% or better to pass"), https://www.mvd.newmexico.gov/chapter-11-road-and-written-test-requirements/, a page dated December 8, 2017 and read 2026-10-04. That page prints no number of questions for the class M test. On 2026-10-05 the division's manuals page, https://www.mvd.newmexico.gov/mvd-drivers-license-manuals/, was read: it lists a Driver's Manual and a commercial manual and no separate motorcycle manual, and the New Mexico Driver Manual it links (https://realfile.tax.newmexico.gov/English%20Drivers%20Manualver11.19.19.pdf) has a section headed Motorcycles on riding. That section was opened to confirm it exists and what it covers; no question, choice or explanation here was drawn from the manual. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from the state's motorcycle manual, the Motor Vehicle Division's test, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or another practice test.
How it works
This unofficial New Mexico motorcycle license test practice has 53 questions from Chapter 66 of the New Mexico Statutes, with the section under each. It covers the law only; riding technique is in the Motorcycles section of the state's Driver Manual.

Chapter 66 as a rider meets it
Section 66-5-14 examines every first-time applicant for a motorcycle endorsement. Section 66-5-5 allows a license at 13 for motorcycles up to 100 cubic centimeters, and asks riders under 18 for a motorcycle driver education program. Section 66-7-356 puts a helmet on operators and passengers under 18; 66-7-355 asks any operator without a fixed windshield for eye protection.
What the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) publishes about the test
The division's Driver Procedures Manual, Chapter 11, says class D and M written test scores must be 70% or better to pass. It gives no question count for class M, so the 25-question length of Exam mode is this site's choice. A wrong answer goes to Missed, and Clear my progress empties that pile and your scores.
Section 66-3-1101 asks a moped operator for a valid driver's license of any class, or a permit, in possession while operating.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the motorcycle license test NM riders take?
The Motor Vehicle Division's manual chapter on written tests does not say. It gives 70% or better as the passing score for class D and M. So the 70% line in Exam mode is the division's figure; the 25-question length is this site's choice.
Is there a motorcycle helmet law in New Mexico?
For riders under 18. Section 66-7-356 requires a securely fastened safety helmet for an operator under 18 and for any passenger under 18. Section 66-7-355 separately asks every operator without an approved fixed windshield to wear eye protection.
Is this a New Mexico motorcycle license study guide?
It is a practice bank, not a manual: 53 law questions, each with its section of Chapter 66. Riding technique is in the Motorcycles section of the Motor Vehicle Division's New Mexico Driver Manual, and road signs are not asked here.
Are these the state's own New Mexico motorcycle questions?
No. They were written for this site from Chapter 66 as the New Mexico Compilation Commission publishes it. The site is not a government website, is not affiliated with the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division and has not seen the division's test.
