How this list was compiled: Written from the Utah Code, Title 41 chapters 1a, 6a and 12a and Title 53 chapter 3, as published by the Utah Legislature at https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title41/Chapter6A/C41-6a_1800010118000101.xml and its sister pages, checked 2026-09-19. Each question names its section and links to that section's page on le.utah.gov. Utah Code 63I-1-241 repeals the lane filtering subsections on July 1, 2027 unless the Legislature acts first; the lane filtering questions are correct for the law in force on the check date. Exam facts on the page come from the Utah Driver License Division, https://dld.utah.gov/motorcycle/, checked 2026-09-19: a 25-question closed-book written knowledge test, passed to receive the motorcycle learner permit. That page and https://dld.utah.gov/written-knowledge-test/ print no pass mark and no time limit for the motorcycle knowledge test, so none is used here. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the Utah Code text; nothing is copied from the Motorcycle Operator Manual the Utah Driver License Division distributes, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, the Driver License Division practice test or another practice test.
How it works
Lane filtering is the Utah rule riders ask about first, and the Utah Code allows it only past stopped traffic at 15 mph or less. This unofficial Utah motorcycle permit practice test asks 130 questions on that code, the section under every one, from headgear under 21 to the six-month learner permit. Code checked September 2026.

Filtering, splitting and the dead red in Utah
Section 41-6a-704 allows lane filtering only past stopped vehicles, at 15 mph or less, where the limit is 45 mph or less and two or more lanes run your way. Section 63I-1-241 repeals the filtering subsections on 1 July 2027 unless the Legislature acts. Lane splitting suspends the endorsement for 90 days, then 180, then revokes it. Section 41-6a-305 gives a 90-second dead-red defense, not a permission.
What the Utah DLD publishes about the test
The Driver License Division's motorcycle endorsement page says the motorcycle learner permit follows a 25-question closed-book written knowledge test. It prints no pass mark or time limit, so no pass line is shown here. Use this Utah motorcycle practice test for the statute half and the division's Motorcycle Operator Manual for riding technique.
Pick Permits and the motorcycle endorsement in the Start from menu: the first two months bar passengers, highways posted above 60 mph and riding between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Press Exam mode under the question, then Start the exam. Marks come at the end. Press Missed to retry wrong answers until you get them right. Clear my progress, pressed twice, wipes all scores and saved questions on this device.

Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Utah motorcycle permit test?
Twenty-five, according to the Driver License Division's motorcycle endorsement page, opened September 2026: a 25-question closed-book written knowledge test. The page states no pass mark or time limit, so exam mode here draws 25 questions to match and shows a score without a pass line.
What can I not do on a Utah motorcycle learner permit?
Under section 53-3-210.6 the permit runs six months. For the first two months you may not carry any passenger, ride a highway posted above 60 mph, or ride after 10 p.m. and before 6 a.m. Riding for work, on a farm or ranch assignment or in an emergency is an affirmative defense, not a permission.
Is this the Driver License Division's own Utah motorcycle test?
It is not. This is not a government website, is not affiliated with the Utah Driver License Division and has never seen its questions. Every question was written from the 2026 Utah Code, not copied from the Motorcycle Operator Manual.
