How this list was compiled: Written from the Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 28 (Transportation), as published by the Arizona Legislature at https://www.azleg.gov/arsDetail/?title=28, checked 2026-09-19. Each question names its section and links to it. Permit and test facts on the page come from the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division, https://azdot.gov/mvd/services/driver-license-ID/motorcycle-license, checked 2026-09-19: an instruction permit from 15 years 6 months, and a motorcycle knowledge test for a first Arizona motorcycle license or endorsement. That page gives no question count and no pass mark for the motorcycle knowledge test. The 80 percent mark on the Division's manuals page is stated for the driver license examination, so it is not applied here. Licence: Own work. Questions, choices and explanations written for this site from the public text of the Arizona Revised Statutes. No question is copied from the Arizona Department of Transportation, its Motorcycle Operator Manual or any test.

How it works

The 88 questions in this unofficial Arizona motorcycle permit practice test come from Title 28 of the Arizona Revised Statutes, each with its section. They cover the Class M instruction permit's limits, helmets under 18, lane filtering at 15 mph, mopeds and autocycles. Riding technique stays in the Motorcycle Operator Manual. Law checked September 2026.

Arizona Class M questions checked against the statutes

A.R.S. 28-964 requires a helmet for an operator or passenger under 18, and eye protection for every operator unless the machine has a protective windshield. The same section wants a rearview mirror, plus a seat and footrests for the operator and for any passenger.

What Arizona publishes about the motorcycle knowledge test

The AZ motorcycle permit test is given by the Motor Vehicle Division, whose motorcycle license page gives no question count or pass mark. The 80 percent on its manuals page belongs to the driver license examination. Anyone who has never held an Arizona permit or driver license also takes the driver license knowledge test. One application fee covers unlimited attempts, and a retest is possible the following day. Exam mode's 25 questions are this site's choice, scored with no pass or fail. Wrong answers wait under Missed, and Clear my progress wipes them.

  • Set Start from to The Class M permit, the license and the endorsement first: section 28-3156 sets age 15 years 6 months and seven months of validity.
  • Keep the small machines apart: a moped is 50 cc or less and 25 mph, a motor driven cycle has five horsepower or less, an autocycle needs a Class D license.
  • Under 18, learn section 28-3174: hold the permit six months, plus an approved program or 30 hours of practice certified by a parent or guardian.

Questions and answers

Is lane filtering legal in Arizona?

Within narrow limits. A.R.S. 28-903 lets a two-wheeled motorcycle pass a stopped vehicle in the same lane at no more than 15 mph, on a street posted at 45 mph or less with two lanes going the same way. Passing a moving car inside its own lane stays illegal.

What are the limits on an Arizona motorcycle instruction permit?

A.R.S. 28-3156 bars the holder from a controlled access highway, from riding between sunset and sunrise, and when a person and a vehicle cannot be seen at 500 feet. The Division's page also lists carrying passengers, which the statute does not mention. One person may get two Class M permits in 24 months.

Does the Motor Vehicle Division write or approve these questions?

No. The site is private, unaffiliated with ADOT, and written from the Arizona Revised Statutes alone. The Division tells applicants to review its Motorcycle Operator Manual, which this bank does not use.
