How this list was compiled: Written from the Revised Statutes of Missouri, chapters 300, 301, 302, 303, 304 and 307, as published by the Revisor of Statutes at https://revisor.mo.gov/main/Home.aspx, checked 2026-09-19. Each question names its section and links to it. Exam facts on the page come from the Missouri Driver Guide (revised August 2026), https://dor.mo.gov/driver-license/guide/, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Driver Examination Division, https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/MSHPWeb/PatrolDivisions/DED/index.html, and the Missouri Motorcycle Operator Manual, https://dor.mo.gov/forms/2332.pdf, all checked 2026-09-19. None of the three gives a question count or pass mark for the Class M written test, so the page gives neither. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from the Missouri Motorcycle Operator Manual, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or another practice test.
How it works
Missouri keeps its rider law in the Revised Statutes, and this unofficial Missouri motorcycle permit practice test draws 85 questions from them, each with its section. They cover headgear under 26 and on every instruction permit, the under-16 permit limits and the stuck red light defense. No riding technique is asked. Statutes checked September 2026.

Missouri's headgear law, age by age
RSMo 302.020 puts headgear on every rider under 26 and on every instruction permit holder of any age, whenever the vehicle is in motion. From 26, RSMo 302.026 waives it only with insurance that pays medical benefits for crash injuries, shown by the insurance card on request. No officer may stop a rider solely to check.
What Missouri publishes about the Class M written test
The Missouri State Highway Patrol gives the written and riding tests. The Missouri Driver Guide, revised August 2026, gives 25 questions for the Class F written test. It gives no count or pass mark for Class M. Exam mode also deals 25, this site's own practice length, not a Class M figure. Its score has no pass or fail. Wrong answers collect under Missed, and Clear my progress resets everything.
Set Start from to Permits and the Class M license first: the six-month life and the under-16 limits sit in RSMo 302.132.
Keep three machines apart: a motorized bicycle (50 cc, 30 mph, any valid license), a motortricycle (straddled, handle bars) and an autocycle (steering wheel, no endorsement, no headgear).
Seating questions cite chapter 300, a model ordinance that binds riders only in cities that adopted it.
Questions and answers
What if a red light never changes for my motorcycle in Missouri?
RSMo 304.285 gives a rider an affirmative defense on four conditions: a complete stop, a wait of an unreasonable time, a signal that apparently malfunctions or fails to detect the motorcycle, and no cross traffic near enough to be an immediate hazard. The statute names no number of seconds, and the defense answers only the red light charge.
What are the limits on a Missouri motorcycle permit?
RSMo 302.132 lets the holder ride for six months. Under 16, the holder may not exceed 250 cc, ride from a half-hour after sunset to a half-hour before sunrise, carry a passenger, or go over 50 miles from home. The Driver Guide requires the rider course only at 15 and a half.
Does the Highway Patrol have anything to do with these questions?
Nothing. The site is independent of the Missouri Department of Revenue and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and has never seen their questions. Every question comes from the Revised Statutes of Missouri. Riding technique, which the state's test also asks, is in the Motorcycle Operator Manual.
