How this list was compiled: Written from the New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated, Title XXI (Motor Vehicles), as published by the New Hampshire General Court at https://gc.nh.gov/rsa/html/NHTOC/NHTOC-XXI.htm, checked 2026-09-19. Each question names its section and links to that section's page. The 80 percent pass mark is the New Hampshire DMV's figure for its knowledge exams, from https://www.dmv.nh.gov/drivers-licensenon-driver-ids/driver-licensing-testing-requirements, checked 2026-09-18, which also says the exams are computer-based, multiple choice and by appointment. No question count or time limit for the motorcycle knowledge test was found on the DMV's pages, so none is given here. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from the New Hampshire Motorcycle Operator Manual, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or another practice test.

How it works

Title XXI of the Revised Statutes Annotated supplies every answer in this unofficial New Hampshire motorcycle permit practice test: 83 questions, with the RSA section under each. Expect a 45-day permit renewed once, riding only between sunrise and sunset, no passengers, headgear under 18 and eye protection without a windshield. Riding technique is not part of it. Statutes checked September 2026.

Title XXI as a rider meets it

RSA 263:32 gives the learner's permit 45 days and one 45-day renewal, allows riding only after sunrise and before sunset, and bars every passenger. RSA 265:122 asks for headgear only under 18, yet RSA 265:123 puts eye protection on any driver with no windshield. RSA 265:121 caps a lane at two abreast and bans riding between rows. RSA 263:31 allows the road examination twice, then requires the rider education program.

What the DMV publishes about the test

The NH motorcycle permit test is a computer-based, multiple-choice knowledge test taken by appointment. The DMV's testing requirements page asks for 80% on every knowledge exam and ten days before a retest. It gives no question count, so the 25-question length of Exam mode is this site's choice. A wrong answer goes to Missed, and Clear my progress empties that pile and your scores.

  • Start with Permits and the endorsement in the Start from menu: 45 days, one renewal, sunrise to sunset and no passengers all sit in RSA 263:32.
  • Learn chapter 266's motorcycle exceptions: one headlamp, 150 feet of light, one reflector, 4 auxiliary lamps, no parking brake.
  • Keep mopeds apart from motor-driven cycles: 30 miles per hour and 50 cc against 5 horsepower.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the New Hampshire motorcycle permit test?

The DMV's testing requirements page does not say. It gives an 80% passing grade for every knowledge exam and ten days before a retest, and no question count for any of them. So the 80% line in Exam mode is the DMV's figure, while the 25-question length is this site's choice.

What can I not do on a New Hampshire motorcycle learner's permit?

Under RSA 263:32 you may not carry any passenger or ride before sunrise or after sunset. The permit lasts 45 days and renews once for another 45. At 16 or 17 you need completed driver education and a New Hampshire driver's license first.

Are these the DMV's own New Hampshire motorcycle questions?

They are not. The site is independent, is not a government website, is not affiliated with the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles and has never seen its questions. Every question was written from the RSA, not copied from the Motorcycle Operator Manual. The state's test also covers riding technique, so study the manual too.
