How this list was compiled: Exam facts: RSA 313-A:15, which has the board establish the scope and content of the examinations; rule Bar 303.03, which makes the written examinations the national tests of the National-Interstate Council; and the Candidate Information Bulletin published for the New Hampshire Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics by its examiner (https://provexam.com/test-information/new-hampshire-state-board-of-barb-cosm-esthetic/bulletin.pdf): Barber theory, 60 questions of which 10 are unscored, 90 minutes, passing score 75. Questions: RSA chapter 313-A on the General Court's site (https://gc.nh.gov/rsa/html/NHTOC/NHTOC-XXX-313-A.htm); the board's rules, chapters Bar 100 to Bar 700, in the Office of Legislative Services copy (https://gc.nh.gov/rules/state_agencies/bar100-700.html); and the bulletin. Each question names its section and links to it. Read 2026-10-16. Licence: Own work. What the New Hampshire barber exam is
Rule Bar 303.03 makes the written examinations national tests. The candidate bulletin (opened October 16, 2026) lists the Barber theory exam at 60 questions, 10 of them unscored, in 90 minutes, and the Master Barber theory exam at 110. Each has a practical exam beside it, and the passing score printed is 75.
What this page practices
The theory outline is four content areas with no New Hampshire law among them. This bank asks the state's own text: RSA 313-A on the two barber licenses, apprentices, shops and the board, and the Bar rules on shop equipment, sanitation and inspections. Hair, skin and shaving theory is not asked.
A barber's license takes 800 school hours, or 1,600 over 12 months or more under a licensed barber (RSA 313-A:10).
Combs and brushes never go in a pocket, and a neck duster is disinfected after each use (Bar 302.07).
Each licensed barber may have up to 2 apprentices for barbering (RSA 313-A:24).
