Scoring key

Unofficial practice sheet
Not the Highway Patrol's form. Rows restate what the Missouri Driver Guide names; how to mark them is our reading.
More than 30 points lost fail
The examiner subtracts points for driving errors, and losing more than 30 fails the test (p. 21). No value for any one error is printed, so this sheet counts errors and draws no pass line.
Any 'also fail' row fail
Each of the five rows in that group fails the test without regard to points lost (p. 21).
Three failed tests 3 fails
Only one driving test may be taken per day. After three failed driving tests, no more are allowed without written authorization from the Department of Revenue, whose letter requires additional behind-the-wheel training (p. 21).

Controls and starting out: Missouri Driver Guide (rev. August 2026), p. 19 2

  • Finding and using controls The examiner asks for controls like the brakes, the accelerator, the windshield wipers and the turn signals. Each is to be found without searching and used correctly. Count each one hunted for or misused.
  • Starting to drive Five things are looked at when you are told to start driving: how you start the vehicle, release of the parking brake, a look that the way is clear, the proper signal, then smooth driving at the correct speed. Count each one missed.

You will be asked to: guide p. 20 9

  • Backing up Tested: a look back over the right shoulder through the rear glass, a straight line instead of a weave, the proper lane of traffic, the right speed. Count each weave and each look skipped.
  • Full stop at the stop sign The last intersection point in the guide: a full stop, made at the proper place. Count each rolling stop and each stop in the wrong spot.
  • Hill parking by the curb Tested: control of the vehicle, no more than 18 inches from the curb, left in park or the correct gear, front wheels turned the correct direction, parking brake set, traffic checked and a signal given. Count each one missed.

You will be asked to: guide p. 20, continued

  • Intersections, in and out Tested here: obeying the signs and lights, your speed on the approach, awareness of the traffic around you, the correct lane, and yielding the right-of-way so that traffic is not blocked. Count each fault.
  • Parallel park: getting in The space is seven feet wide and 25 feet long. Tested on the way in: where the vehicle sits before backing, any bump into the space markers, moving in smoothly at the right speed, and being parked within two minutes. Count each slip.
  • Parallel park: where it ends Tested once parked: no more than 18 inches from the curb, near the center of the space, wheels turned the correct direction; then a traffic check and a signal before leaving. Count each one missed.
  • Signs and signals noticed Number seven on the guide's list is one line long: noticing and obeying traffic signs and signals. Count each one not seen or not obeyed.
  • Starts and stops First on the guide's numbered list. Tested: how smooth and safe each start and stop is, your reaction time, and control of the vehicle while stopping. Count each rough or late one.
  • Two right, two left turns At least two of each are asked for. Tested: the correct lane for turning, the proper signal at the proper time, the proper lane afterwards, traffic checks, speed and control. Count each fault.

Good driving rules: guide p. 21 6

  • Awareness of traffic Your awareness of the traffic around you is tested twice in the guide, at intersections and as a good driving rule. Count here each surprise away from an intersection.
  • Errors marked, this drive The sixteen rows above, one column per drive. The examiner's own figure is points lost, and the guide prints no value for an error, so this number is not points.
  • Gap to the vehicle in front The distance between your vehicle and the one ahead heads the guide's list of good driving rules. Count each time the gap closed up.
  • Proper lane, lane markings A good driving rule watched the whole way: driving in the proper lane and obeying the lane markings. Count each drift or crossed marking.
  • Speed while driving The guide's words are only 'your speed while driving'. Count each stretch driven too fast or too slow for the road you were on.
  • Yielding when necessary Yielding the right-of-way when necessary closes the guide's list of good driving rules. Count each time another road user had to wait or brake for you.

You also fail if: guide p. 21 6

  • 'Also fail' rows, this drive The five rows above. Page 21 says any of them fails the test, apart from the points.
  • Crash that was your fault A crash with another vehicle, where the fault is yours. Type how many.
  • Drove dangerously Driving so dangerously that you might have caused a traffic crash, though none happened. Type how many times.
  • Pedestrian hit The guide's words are two: hit a pedestrian. Type how many times a person on foot was touched.
  • Refused to drive as asked Not driving as the examiner asks. In practice, count each task the learner would not attempt.
  • Traffic law violated Any Missouri traffic law broken during the drive; the guide says all of them must be obeyed at all times. Type how many.

The vehicle must have: guide p. 19 8

  • Current license plate(s) On the vehicle and current; the guide writes plate(s). Type 1 when they are.
  • Driver, examiner doors work Doors that work properly for the driver and for the examiner, who sits beside you. Type 1 when both open and shut.
  • Examiner's seat clean, safe A seat for the examiner that is clean and safe is on the list. Type 1 when the passenger seat is cleared.
  • Financial responsibility proof Proof of financial responsibility ends the vehicle list. Type 1 when the proof is in the vehicle.
  • Horn sounds A horn that works well. Type 1 when it does.
  • Parking brake and foot brake Two sets of brakes, both in good working order. Type 1 when both hold the vehicle.
  • Seat belts work In proper working order, the guide says. Type 1 when each belt latches and releases.
  • Valid inspection sticker Named on the same line of the guide as the plates. Type 1 when the sticker is valid.

Before the driving test: guide pp. 18 and 19 3

  • Lines ready, of ten Ten fills a column: eight rows for the car and two for the applicant, counted on each date you looked. The Driver Guide prints no such number.
  • Proof of legal name and age Proof of your legal name and age is required before the driver exam, and you show that identification whenever you take a written or driving test (p. 18). Type 1 when it is packed.
  • Written, vision, sign tests The driving test comes only after the written, vision and road sign tests are passed (p. 19). Type 1 when all three are.

Scoring key 8

  • Any 'also fail' row Each of the five rows in that group fails the test without regard to points lost (p. 21).
  • Examiner beside you You drive and the examiner sits beside you; nobody else is allowed in the vehicle while the test runs (p. 19).
  • More than 30 points lost The examiner subtracts points for driving errors, and losing more than 30 fails the test (p. 21). No value for any one error is printed, so this sheet counts errors and draws no pass line.
  • Not properly equipped The test cannot be taken in a vehicle that lacks proper equipment, or if the examiner believes that giving it will be dangerous (p. 19).
  • Results form after a pass The form with your test results is not valid for driving. A license is applied for and obtained at a license office before you drive (p. 21).
  • Three failed tests Only one driving test may be taken per day. After three failed driving tests, no more are allowed without written authorization from the Department of Revenue, whose letter requires additional behind-the-wheel training (p. 21).
  • Unofficial practice sheet Not the Highway Patrol's form. Rows restate what the Missouri Driver Guide names; how to mark them is our reading.
  • Who gives the test A Missouri State Highway Patrol driver examiner (p. 19). Section 302.173 of the state's statutes calls it an actual demonstration of ability to exercise due care in the operation of a motor vehicle.

How this list was compiled: From one text, the Missouri Driver Guide, revised August 2026, published by the Missouri Department of Revenue, chapter 2, pages 18 to 21, read 2026-10-04 in the Department's own file: https://dor.mo.gov/forms/Driver%20Guide.pdf (its page for the guide: https://dor.mo.gov/driver-license/guide/). No copyright line was found in the guide. Read the same day, for who gives the test and what state law calls it: section 302.173 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, https://revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=302.173. The test is given by examiners of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and is arranged with the Patrol, not here: https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/MSHPWeb/PatrolDivisions/DED/index.html. Taken from the guide, each in our own words and in an order of our own: what it says you are tested for with the controls and when you start driving (p. 19); the seven things it says you will be asked to do, the parallel park split over two rows and the full stop at stop signs given a row to itself (p. 20); its five good driving rules and the five things it says also fail the test (p. 21); what the vehicle must have (p. 19) and what comes before the driving test (pp. 18 and 19). Ours, not the state's: the layout, the row names, what counts as one error in a row, and typing 1 for a line that is ready. The guide says that losing more than 30 points fails but prints no value for any error, so these sheets count errors and print no pass line. This is not a Highway Patrol or Department of Revenue form and cannot be handed in as one; nobody at either has seen it. Licence: own work

How it works

An unofficial Missouri driving skills test checklist and score sheet for the Missouri road test, made from pages 18 to 21 of the state's Driver Guide, read October 4, 2026. Not the examiner's form; this page books no test.

Mark the drive, then ready the car

1. Press Print blank sheet while The drive is up. Switch to Before the test and print it too.

2. On a practice drive, the supervising driver your permit requires names each task, touches the paper only when the car is stopped, and speaks up or takes over the moment it is needed.

3. Parked, type the count for every row. The column adds up on its own.

4. The day before, walk around the car with the second sheet and type 1 for each line in order.

5. Open the next practice with the fullest row.

Questions and answers

What is on the Missouri drivers license road test?

The Driver Guide lists seven tasks: start and stop, parallel park, back up, at least two right and two left turns, park on a hill, enter and leave intersections, and obey signs and signals. Controls and five good driving rules are tested too.

How many points can you lose on the Missouri drivers road test?

No more than 30: the guide says that if you lose more than 30 points, you fail (p. 21). It prints no value for any single error, so these sheets tally errors and draw no pass line.

What else fails the Missouri road test?

Five things, whatever the points: a crash with another vehicle that is your fault, hitting a pedestrian, driving so dangerously you might have caused a crash, violating a traffic law, and refusing to drive as the examiner asks.

What must the car have for the driving skills test?

Current license plates and a valid inspection sticker, working seat belts, working doors for driver and examiner, a clean, safe seat for the examiner, a parking brake and a foot brake in good order, a working horn, and proof of financial responsibility.

Is this the Missouri road test score sheet examiners use?

No. The Driver Guide prints no examiner's form. The sheets here are ours and unofficial: rows restate pages 18 to 21 in our words, and what counts as one error is our reading, not the state's.
