Scoring key

Practice scorer only
Made for practice drives. Not a state's, an examiner's or an employer's form, and no examiner's form is copied here.
The number in a box
How many times that skill went wrong on one drive. Empty means none.
On-road rows
The eight skills of 49 CFR 383.113(c), in our own words.
On a real test
A state scores it solely from its own driver and examiner manuals: 49 CFR 383.133(c)(1).
No passing number
The federal rule prints none. It points to Appendix A of the examiner manual: 383.135(b)(1).
Order of the three segments
Pre-trip inspection, basic control, then on-road: 49 CFR 383.133(c)(6).

  • Area 3: steering Third of the nine areas the rule lists, with no part named: paragraph (a)(1)(iii).
  • Area 4: suspension Fourth in the list: paragraph (a)(1)(iv).
  • Area 5: brakes Fifth in the list: paragraph (a)(1)(v). The air brake skills have their own row below.

How this list was compiled: From Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 383, read on 2026-10-05 in the eCFR text current as of 2026-10-01 (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/part-383). Every row is a skill or an inspection area that section 383.113, Required skills, names (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/section-383.113): paragraph (c) for the eight on-road driving skills, paragraph (b) for the seven basic vehicle control skills, and paragraph (a) for the nine inspection areas and the air brake skills. Where one paragraph names several things (the four kinds of conditions that speed is adjusted to, the three uses of a safe gap, the two reasons for positioning at a turn), each has a row of its own; nothing is on a sheet that the paragraph does not name. Section 383.133(c) was read for the order of the three test segments and for the rule that a state scores the skills tests solely from its driver and examiner manuals. Section 383.131(b) was read for what the examiner manual holds (scoring procedures, causes for automatic failure, standardized scoring sheets), and section 383.135(b) for passing: it sends the scores to the examiner manual and prints none, so these sheets show no pass mark, no point value, no time limit and no list of automatic failures. Nothing is taken from a state CDL manual, an examiner manual or an examiner's score form, and no such form is imitated. Our own work: the wording of every line, the split of a paragraph into rows, and what a number in a box means (how many times that skill went wrong on one practice drive, or how many parts were missed in one inspection area). These are unofficial practice sheets, not a state's, an examiner's or an employer's form. Licence: own work

How it works

This unofficial CDL road test score sheet is a practice scorer made from the skills of 49 CFR 383.113, read October 5, 2026. On a real test only the examiner's own form, scored from the state's manuals, decides the result.

How to score a practice drive

1. Press Print blank sheet, or keep the page open on a phone.

2. A partner watches the drive. The sheet is filled in once the vehicle is parked, never while it moves.

3. Beside each on-road skill, type how many times it went wrong. An empty box means none.

4. On-road mistakes adds up the drive. Press the + beside the column for the next one.

5. Vehicle inspection and Basic control hold the two segments that come first on a test.

  • Each sheet prints on one page of its own, so print once for every segment you want on paper.
  • The inspection sheet counts misses by area; it does not list the parts one by one.

Questions and answers

What score sheet does a CDL examiner use on the road test?

49 CFR 383.131(b)(1)(x) says a state's examiner manual holds standardized scoring sheets for the skills tests. They are not printed in the federal rule, and this page does not copy or imitate one. Its rows restate the skills of 383.113.

How many points can you miss on the CDL road test?

The federal rule prints no number. 49 CFR 383.135(b)(1) says a passing applicant performs every skill of 383.113 and reaches the scores listed in the examiner manual. This sheet shows totals and no pass mark.

What is an automatic fail on the CDL road test?

Under 49 CFR 383.135(b)(2), an applicant fails who does not obey traffic laws, causes an accident, or commits an offense that the driver and examiner manuals list as a reason for automatic failure. This sheet prints no such list.

What order are the three parts of the CDL skills test in?

49 CFR 383.133(c)(6) sets it: pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control skills, then on-road skills. An applicant who fails one segment cannot continue to the next. The three sheets here are those three segments.
