Points the rule allows 36
A Class D applicant is allowed 36 points, and an error costs a point or points by how serious it is: 1030.85(g). No value for one error is printed there, so no pass line here.
Ends the test at once not added
A ticketed violation, a dangerous action, or not cooperating or refusing a maneuver: 1030.85(h).
In the car on test day
The applicant and the examiner only, with exceptions for a translator or staff in training: 1030.85(j).
Recording devices
None during the test, phones and cameras included. Refusing to stop one and delete the recording fails the test: 1030.85(n).
Shoes
Applicants must wear shoes during a road test: 1030.85(p).

This Illinois road test score sheet is unofficial practice, not the Secretary of State's form. Its rows are the 20 driving skills that 92 Ill. Adm. Code 1030.85 says a Class D license applicant is evaluated on. Rule read September 30, 2026.

Score an Illinois practice drive
1. Press Print blank sheet.
2. Name each drive with its date.
3. Ride along as the supervising driver your permit requires, and mark errors on paper at stops. Safety comes first: speak up or take over the moment you need to.
4. Once parked, type how many errors each skill had. The drive's total fills in.
5. The row with the most marks is the skill to practice next.
Both hill rows need a hill. On a flat route, leave them empty.
A turn has four parts in the rule: signal, speed, lane and the turn. One sloppy turn can add four marks.
Questions and answers
How many points can you lose on the Illinois road test?
The rule allows a Class D license applicant 36 points. An error costs a point or points by how serious it is, and the rule prints no value for one error. That is why this sheet counts errors and draws no pass line.
What is an automatic fail on the Illinois road test?
The rule calls it immediate disqualification. Three of the acts it names can happen in a car: a violation you get a ticket for, a dangerous action, and not cooperating or refusing a maneuver. Count those in the last row.
Is this the Illinois driving test score sheet an examiner uses?
No. It is our own unofficial sheet. The 20 rows are the skills the state's rule names, in our words, and what counts as an error in a row is our reading. The examiner's form and its point values are not printed here.
Who can be in the car during the test?
Only you and the examiner. The rule allows an exception for a translator and for facility staff in training. It also bans recording devices, phones included, and says applicants must wear shoes.
What makes a road test incomplete instead of failed?
Four things in the rule: the applicant becomes ill or disabled, the vehicle breaks down after the test has begun, the weather makes going on hazardous, or an accident happens for which the applicant gets no ticket.

Driving skills named in 92 Ill. Adm. Code 1030.85(b) 20
AttentionThe rule words it as distraction level. Count each time the learner's attention left the road.
BackingCount each reverse that wandered off line or was made without looking where the car was going.
Clutch or automaticUse of the clutch or the automatic transmission, the last skill on the rule's list. Count each stall, wrong gear or rough shift.
Final parkThe park that ends the drive. Count one if it went wrong.
Following too closelyCount each stretch driven too close behind the vehicle ahead.
Lane observanceKeeping to the lane. Count each drift over a lane line or out of the lane.
Left and right turnsThe rule lists four things for a turn: signal, speed, lane and the turn itself. Count one for each that went wrong, so one poor turn can score up to four.
Other signsYield, school, railroad, regulatory, warning and special signs, as the rule lists them. Count each one missed or misread.
Parking on a hillParking uphill and downhill, in the rule's words. Count each try that went wrong. Leave the row empty on a route with no hill.

PostureHow the learner sits at the wheel. Count each time you had to say something about it.
Right-of-wayCount each time the learner went when it was someone else's turn, or held everyone up when it was theirs.
SignalsThe rule names three moments: pulling in to the curb, pulling away from it and changing lanes. Count each signal missed or given late.
Speed: too fast or too slowThe rule names both faults. Count each stretch driven too fast, and each one driven too slow.
StartThe first skill on the rule's list. Count each time the car was set moving roughly, late or before the learner was ready.
Starting on a hillMoving off uphill and downhill. Count each start that rolled back, stalled or lurched.
SteeringCount each wobble, wide swing or late correction of the wheel.
Stop signsCount each stop sign the learner handled wrongly.
Traffic lightsCount each traffic light the learner handled wrongly.
TurnaboutTurning the car around to face the other way. Count each try that went wrong.
Use of mirrorsCount each time the learner moved over, slowed or stopped without a look in the mirrors first.
Total and test-ending acts 2
Errors seen on the driveThe 20 skill rows added for each drive, one mark an error. It is a count of errors, not the state's points: the rule says an error costs a point or points by how serious it is, and prints no value for one.
Test-ending actsThe rule names three acts that disqualify an applicant at once in a car: a violation that gets a ticket, a dangerous action, and not cooperating or refusing a maneuver. Count each one you saw, a violation that would have earned a ticket included. The number stays out of the total.

How this list was compiled: From one regulation, 92 Ill. Adm. Code 1030.85 (Driver's License Testing/Road Test), read on the Illinois General Assembly's site, https://www.ilga.gov/commission/jcar/admincode/092/092010300000850R.html, on 2026-09-30. Its source note reads: amended at 50 Ill. Reg. 9349, effective July 1, 2026. Taken from the rule, each in our own words: the 20 driving skills that subsection (b) says a Class C or Class D applicant is evaluated on, in the rule's order, with the details it gives in brackets (the four parts of a turn, too fast and too slow, uphill and downhill, the three signal moments, the six kinds of other sign); the 36 points allowed and the sentence that an error costs a point or points by its severity (g); the acts of immediate disqualification (h); the reasons a test is incomplete (i); who may ride along (j); the ban on recording devices (n); and shoes (p). Nothing comes from the state's driver handbook, from an examiner's form or from any agency web page. Our own work: the wording of every line, and what to count as an error in each row, which the rule does not define. This is an unofficial practice sheet and not the state's form. It prints no value for a single error and no pass line, because the rule gives neither. Licence: own work
