Scoring key

Unofficial practice sheet
Made from New York's public list of road test errors. Not the sheet a license examiner marks, and no office accepts it.
No points on the state's page none printed
The Road Test Results page names each error and prints no point value, no passing total and no list of automatic failures. So this is a plain tally.
Permit after a failed test still valid
The page says a learner permit remains valid until its expiration date after a failed road test. If it expires before the next test, a new one is needed.

Key 6

  • Chapters beside the errors The state's table sends each error to a chapter of the New York State Driver's Manual: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 or 11. Six vehicle control errors have none.
  • Class M scoring summary The state's summary for a motorcycle test repeats the car errors, sending nine of them to the Motorcycle Manual, and adds the seven on this sheet.
  • Five categories, two sheets The state lists the car errors in five categories. They are split over two sheets here so each prints on one page. The split is ours.
  • No points on the state's page The Road Test Results page names each error and prints no point value, no passing total and no list of automatic failures. So this is a plain tally.
  • Permit after a failed test The page says a learner permit remains valid until its expiration date after a failed road test. If it expires before the next test, a new one is needed.
  • Unofficial practice sheet Made from New York's public list of road test errors. Not the sheet a license examiner marks, and no office accepts it.

How this list was compiled: From one page of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, Road Test Results, read 2026-10-05: https://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/road-test-results. From it, as facts in our own words: the five error categories of the Class D scoring summary (Leaving Curb, Turning and Intersections, Parking, Backing, and U-Turns, Driving in Traffic, Vehicle Control), the 32 errors on the scoring sheet with the state's description of each and the Driver's Manual chapter its table names, the seven errors the Class M summary adds under Motorcycle, and what the page says about a learner permit after a failed test. The page prints no point value for any error, no passing total and no list of automatic failures, so none is printed here. Ours, not the state's: the layout, the short row names, counting one mark for each time an error is seen, splitting the car errors over two sheets, and the totals. This is not the form an examiner marks, it cannot be handed in as one, and nobody at the Department has seen it. Licence: own work

How it works

An unofficial New York State road test score sheet built from the Department of Motor Vehicles page Road Test Results, read October 5, 2026. Not an examiner's form; that page prints no points, so the sheets only count.

Tally a New York practice drive

1. Press Print blank sheet and take the paper along.

2. On the drive, the supervising driver your permit requires marks paper only at stops, and speaks up or takes over the moment it is needed.

3. Parked, type each row's count under that drive. The sheet adds its rows.

4. Open Traffic and control for the other eighteen errors. Riders use Motorcycle.

5. Type the date in place of a drive's name.

Questions and answers

Is this the NYS road test scoring sheet examiners use?

No. It is a practice tally made from the scoring summary on the Department of Motor Vehicles page Road Test Results, which names each error on the scoring sheet. The layout and the counting are ours, and no office accepts it.

How many NYS road test points can you lose?

The state's Road Test Results page does not say. It lists the errors on the scoring sheet and prints no point value for any of them and no passing total, so this sheet counts errors and prints no points.

What are the New York State road test automatic fails?

The Road Test Results page lists none. It describes thirty-two errors for a car test without marking any of them as an automatic failure, so this sheet marks none either.

What errors are on the NYS road test?

For a car, thirty-two in five categories: leaving the curb, turning and intersections, parking, backing and U-turns, driving in traffic, and vehicle control. The motorcycle summary adds seven, such as poor balance and a poor figure-8.

What happens to a learner permit after a failed New York road test?

The state's page says the permit remains valid until its expiration date. If it expires before the next road test, a new learner permit is needed.
