Where Missouri parts from the federal rule

Many wrong choices are the federal rule. Missouri tries impeachments before its supreme court, not the senate, and convicts by five-sevenths. Habeas corpus is never suspended. A grand jury has twelve members, and nine can indict. An amendment needs a majority of members-elect in each house, then a majority of the votes cast on it.

What the bank covers and leaves out

The 178 Missouri questions run from the Preamble through Article XII, with the most on the Bill of Rights (36) and the General Assembly (30). Articles XIII and XIV, the schedules and court decisions are left out. A mixed round of 25 holds two or three federal questions.

  • Pair the term limits: eight years in one house, sixteen in both. The governor and the treasurer may each be elected twice.
  • Sort the petition numbers: eight percent for an amendment, five percent for a law or a referendum, each in two-thirds of the congressional districts.

Questions and answers

Who has to take the Missouri constitution test?

Under section 170.011, no pupil receives a graduation certificate from any school, private trade schools excepted, without passing an examination on the US and Missouri Constitutions and on American history, institutions and civics. This bank covers the two constitutions. Sponsored foreign exchange students are exempt.

I passed it at one college. Do I take it again after a transfer?

Section 170.011 says a college or university student who completed the required course and passed the examination, and then transfers to another college or university, need not take another course or examination to graduate. Confirm it with the new school's registrar.

Is this the same as the Missouri civics test of 100 questions?

No. Section 170.345 sets a separate examination of 100 questions similar to the USCIS naturalization questions, for students entering ninth grade after July 1, 2017. Schools may fold it into the constitution examination. The citizenship test on this site holds the USCIS lists, history included.

Will my school's test use these questions?

No. No one here has seen a Missouri school's or college's paper, and no teacher has checked these answers yet. Each question was written from the Revisor of Statutes text and cites its section. Where the two disagree, trust the section.
