How this list was compiled: Written from the Nevada Revised Statutes, chapter 486 (Motorcycles and Similar Vehicles), sections 486.071, 486.131, 486.101, 486.171, 486.181, 486.191, 486.201, 486.211, 486.221, 486.251, 486.261, 486.271, 486.281, 486.291, 486.311, 486.341, 486.351, 486.038, 486.057, read on the Nevada Legislature's site, https://www.leg.state.nv.us/nrs/NRS-486.html, on 2026-09-30. Each question names its section and links to it. That written examinations are part of licensing is NRS 486.071 (written examinations and driving tests as required by the Department, or an approved course of motorcycle safety) and NRS 486.131 (the examination may test knowledge of safe driving practices and the traffic laws). No Department of Motor Vehicles page giving the number of questions or a pass mark was read on 2026-09-30, so neither is used. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from the state's motorcycle manual, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or another practice test.

How it works

This unofficial Nevada motorcycle permit test practice has 39 questions from chapter 486 of the Nevada Revised Statutes, with the section under each. It covers the law only; riding technique is in the state's motorcycle manual, so study that too.

The license, passengers and the lane

NRS 486.071 sets the adult rule at 18: written examinations and driving tests, or an approved course of motorcycle safety. A passenger needs a motorcycle designed for two and adjusted footrests (486.181). A motorcycle has the full use of its lane, may ride two abreast by consent, and may not pass between vehicles in adjacent lanes (486.341, 486.351).

What Nevada law says about the test

NRS 486.131 lets the examination test knowledge of safe driving practices and the traffic laws, eyesight, and control of a motorcycle. Helmet and definition sections are printed in two versions until a state notice is given, so this bank asks nothing from them. No Department of Motor Vehicles page giving a pass mark was read in September 2026, so none is shown.

  • Nevada wants two mirrors, one on each handlebar, and handlebars no more than 6 inches above the driver's shoulders (NRS 486.311, 486.201).

Questions and answers

Can you lane split on a motorcycle in Nevada?

No. NRS 486.351 says a person shall not drive a motorcycle between moving or stationary vehicles occupying adjacent traffic lanes. The only exception in that subsection is a police officer in the performance of duty.

Can you skip the written test for a Nevada motorcycle license?

NRS 486.071 allows two routes. An approved course of motorcycle safety stands in for the written examinations and driving tests. A permit holder of 18 or older who held the permit 6 months, expired no more than 30 days, skips the written examinations.

Is this the Nevada DMV's motorcycle test?

No. This is not a government website, is not affiliated with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and has never seen the department's questions. Every answer here rests on a section of NRS chapter 486.
