How it works

Nevada caps every highway at 80 mph, issues permits at 15 1/2 and wants 3 feet between your car and a bicycle. This unofficial Nevada permit practice test turns 162 such rules from the Nevada Revised Statutes into linked questions and adds 48 on federal road signs. Statutes checked 18 September 2026.

How the Nevada DMV test is given

Nevada does have a DMV, and it runs the written knowledge test. Take it online, in English or Spanish, or on a touch-screen computer at an office, where audio is offered. Testing costs $25 and a retest $10. A failed test can be retaken the next day. Source: the department's Written Knowledge Test page.

What state law puts on the exam

NRS 483.330 orders at least one question on the handheld phone rule in NRS 484B.165, so that rule is in this bank. So are the numbers that set Nevada apart: 15 mph in a school zone and 25 in a school crossing zone, a turnout duty once five vehicles line up behind you, a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew for licensed 16- and 17-year-olds, and 12 demerit points in 12 months for a suspension. Rules not yet in force, like the 1 July 2028 daytime headlamp rule, were left out.

  • A center two-way left-turn lane may carry you no more than 200 feet before the turn (NRS 484B.223), and a U-turn is banned inside a school zone while its limit is in effect (NRS 484B.363).
  • Set Topic to Speed and following distance, then Lanes and passing: the 80 mph ceiling, the 500-foot truck gap and the 200-foot center turn lane limit all sit in chapter 484B.
  • Before the license at 16, NRS 483.2521 asks for 50 logged supervised hours, 10 in darkness, and six months on the permit.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Nevada permit test, and how many can you miss?

25 multiple-choice questions, and you can miss 5: the passing score is 80 percent, or 20 right, per the department's Written Knowledge Test page, checked 18 September 2026. Online you get 60 minutes. An office test is untimed.

Are these the questions the Nevada DMV asks?

No. The department does not publish its question pool. Every question here was written from a section of the Nevada Revised Statutes and links to it. The DMV posts its own practice quiz and driver handbook on dmv.nv.gov.

How old do you have to be for a Nevada instruction permit?

15 1/2. NRS 483.280 sets that age, makes the permit good for one year, and puts a licensed driver aged 21 or older, with a year of licensed experience, in the seat beside you.
